Brake Failure on track w/video 2014 1le
Has anyone had trouble with what I can only discribe as COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. I have a video of the incident and I plan to take it to the dealer on monday but it really slowed me down the rest of the day because I couldnt trust the car.
Ill start at the beginning, I took it to the dealer and had the brake fluid evacuated and replaced 2 months ago with Castrol SRF racing brake fluid. Pads are factory but look to be in great shape the car only has 9k miles and most of that is driving back an forth to work. I have run autocross about 10 times I have tracked this car several times and learned to trust my brakes. So this thru me for a loop. Now to the Video... In the video I'm hard on the brakes at exactly 27.60 (plenty of time to slow for the corner) I hit the brakes and they were HARD AS A ROCK. The car didnt even try to stop. At Exactly 28.72 I curse and pull the E-Brake causing me to go off track and inducing a spin. (better than getting stuck in the middle of a field.) After the car restarted the brakes worked fine the rest of the day. Anyone ever have this happen? What do you think it could be? Thanks,

Usually when brakes fail they go soft, not hard. I find it even weirder that they worked fine after the failure. Air in the brake lines? Someone with better mechanical expertise should be able to point you in the right direction.

I hope you are kidding because that seems like a serious issue.

That's absolutely terrifying. Even more so when it apparently "happens all the time".
Definitely get it checked out and try not to fall for any BS they might give you at the dealer. Also good on you for keeping your cool, I would've flipped out |

Not yet, it hasn't happened in a while. Mainly when the car was new (Under 10000 miles). Mine basically felt like something was under the brake pedal and wouldn't let me depress it all the way. The car would slow down, but barely, and it felt like something under the car scraped on something else. But the one time it was seriously scary was on this private road leading up to my buddy's land where I really got on it and there was a wall at the end and I braked thinking it would be normal but no, so I had to let go of the brake and pump it before it actually stopped me within a couple feet of the wall.

Do you think you had zero braking at all, or just no power assist?
Could be a vacuum problem or a bad booster if you had some brakes just not typical power brakes. No brakes at all, and hard pedal... thats a secenario I've never encountered. Only no brake situation I've ever seen (not in a camaro) was a blown line and the pedal went to the floor with a squish and stayed there.

I think you just took the corner too fast....Your speed drops significantly before you hit the dirt...My guess is your brakes are fine....

Honestly my guess would be the vacuum assist like cowboy said. Did it feel like you were pushing the brakes when the car is off? You know when you push down and they build pressure and get hard?

It slowed because i hit the Ebrake. thats why the wierd reaction when i hit the dirt and the rear was locked.
