High Idle At Startup

Recently I have noticed my 2ss seems to be idling a little rough and high at startup, I would say roughly 1100 rpms or so. If I let it idle for a while, say two minutes, it then goes down to around 600 rpms. Any ideas on what this could be or if it warrants a trip to the dealer? Car is stock except for CAI.

Totally normal, they all do it for warm up. Occasionally while warming up the whole car will rock and it seems like a back fire. Rest easy

I'd worry if it didn't high idle at cold startup and then drop down. What you're describing is normal. Every vehicle we own does that.

Completely normal. Mine (and all others I assume) do it as well.

Thanks guys. I appreciate all of the responses. I just don't remember it sounding like this before, but could totally be something that I was just not paying attention too.

That is what we call a cold start, completely normal! I'd be flipping out if it DIDNT happen every morning

Plus with DI, they do run rough until enough pressure is built up, then everything evens out. The LT1 though does naturally have a little bit of a roughness to it, even when warmed up. It is part of its character.

And I love that side of the car. Just something weird I noticed. It definitely could have been the weather getting a little colder lately too as the roughness is not as noticeable when it is warmer.

A lot of that high idle at start up is to get some spent gases flowing through the cats so they start working properly faster to meet EPA emissions requirements. The fancy metals lining the cats don't work well until they get hot. A high initial idle assists with that.

Bottom line - as all others have said its normal.
