Child in the Back Seat. Yes it can be done!

I wanted to share this picture since when I was shopping for a Camaro, I wanted to know if I could fit a car seat in the back. I had to find out by finding a dealership that would allow a 24 hour test drive, take the test Camaro to Babies R Us, and install car seats to see how they fit.

I'm happy to say that since owning the Camaro (convertible), I've had no issues fitting Christopher back there with a front-facing car seat. The passenger seat can go pretty far back, and I have no issues at 6 ft tall sitting in the passenger seat with Christopher behind me.

Now with a rear-facing seat, that's a different story. A rear-facing seat will fit if you want to pick up the kid solo. The passenger seat will have to go pretty far forward, but a person can still fit in the passenger seat...just not comfortably, and almost to the point of looking silly.

Thought I would share my thoughts since the primary reason I chose a Camaro over a Corvette was for the back seats.

By the way, yesterday my wife drove three of her friends out to lunch from Hampton, Virginia to Norfolk, Virginia. They all had a blast even though the rear seats were somewhat cramped.

My 8 and 11 year old do fine in the back seats. My 6'3" coworker on the other hand, not so much You can still make it work, just not as comfortably.

I was curious about a full-on car seat fitting (not curious enough to have another child to find out lol )

Back when I first got my Camaro in 2011, my son was 6 months old. His car seat fit in the back seat with no problem. Now at 6, he's still riding in the back with leg room to spare. I assume the gen 6 is no different.

Nice! I have 2 car seats in the back, the recaro for my 1.5 yr old son and the graco for my 5 yr old daughter. I just leave them there just in case I have to pick up the kids from the sitter or a quick grocery run when I am alone with the kiddos while moms at work. They fit good with enough leg room, but then again its probably because im only like 5'7, 5'8. The graco is great for the bigger kids because its not very bulky but still has some head support. I will try to get a picture sometime with my kids buckled in.

I have the recaro harness booster and sadly, it doesnt fit in the 6th gen coupe. At least not with the back high enough for my almost 6 year old.

PS. The kid in the OP is quite a bit too young to be forward facing. He should be rear facing until hes 2

Awesome news on the rear facing seat. My wife is 14 weeks along with our little girl. We have her SUV for the long trips, but I will more than likely be dropping our daughter off to grandmas once my wife goes back to work.

My 2 kids fit in the back seat. 8 and 11. I'm 5'8" so there is room.

IMO it's less about fitting than the hassle of getting them in and out. I had my 3YO in a front facing and 1YO in a rear facing and it works. I was pretty much making love to the steering wheel but we got where we were going. However getting that rear facing in and out of the car with my daughter in it was a nightmare every time. Really it just depends on how bad you want it. I don't have to deal with it every day so it isn't a huge deal. If I had to ferry the kids daily I might reconsider.

And while we're on the kid seat topic. Have you guys located the little metal bars for the LATCH system in the bottom of the seat? Where are they? My wife and I couldn't find them and had to use seat belts on the car seats. It's weird because I see the little plastic logos that should show where the are (at least in every other car I've driven), I just haven't been able to find them in the Camaro.

He is way too little to be forward facing though. My oldest is 3 1/2 and he is still rear facing.

This 100%

In my 5th gen it wasn't so bad getting the rear facing seat in and out, but in the 6th gen...its a royal pain the butt getting the seat in and out with your child in the seat. I don't think my wife could have done it at all. This was a real dissapointment for me, although at the same time I almost expected it since we all know the 6th gen actually list a bit of leg and head room compared to the 5th gen.

Our daughter is now forward facing, which works alright. But when the day comes that we have another that needs rear facing...well then I don't know what we are going to do. Thinking might have to move the child to forward facing long before I do that in my truck which is my daily driver.
