Fuel levels
Just a general question on how low do you let your gas tank get. I've heard it does harm to the engine if you let it starve for gas as they say. I personally don't let it go below 1/4 of a tank. So, what is your personal rule of thumb when it comes to this?

I think I do that because of I have a V8 and if I need a few good mashes of the pedal to get out of a jam etc, I could be on "E" and walking real quick I believe.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Half a quarter tank is E for me. There's a gas station every other block in the IE. I also always fill up to 'Full', hardly in between.

I fill up at 1/4 of a tank. Only because when I was young and stupid at 16 I ran my vehicle completely out of gas once and after that I swore it would never happen again.

I can honestly say I've never ran out of gas, there's been times where I've been like ohhhh snap on the interstate from Ga to Va, not cool haha

I try to fill up at 1/8th. Being a 19 gallon tank I believe there's still over 3 gallons left when the low fuel light actually appears for me.

^ lol. I was editing my statement. You guys are too fast. I usually put 15ish gallons in so I've not had too many worries on daily driving from work. There's a station every mile down here.

Same here. Generally there's no reason to go below.

What could hurt your engine isn't no gas, but crap that cold be lying in the bottom of the tank, namely water, thanks to ethanol. Older vehicles could also burn up the fuel pump since it is gas that keeps the pump cool, but I don't that's a problem on newer cars. Still wouldn't test that, though.
