Key Fob
Well it happened. One of my key FOB's gave out . The unlock button caved in so I had to go to my other one. Bought the car June of 2010 brand new and have signed off on the recall. I want to order an other one but do not want to get it without the key on it.
Does anyone know if I can just get the pad portion of the FOB?

just buy an uncut fob and transfer the key, there are a few tutorials on how to do that and then sync the fab to your car. i believe its just the generic chevy fob.

GM Part # 20979469, along with key code, ordered from a GM parts department will get you the key, cut, attached to the transmitter. Easy to learn to the vehicle and should be about 50-60 bucks. There's other ways to go, but 'turn-key' is pretty cool. This is for a manual trans (no remote start) so if you have an auto will be a diff #.

Cool. Thanks. I do have a standard trans so I'll check into it.

When the new fob gets there, why not push the pin out of your current fob, take "the blade" out and reinstall in the new fob? The car may still need the learning process for the new fob, but at least you'll know that the key will work.

I just bought a key from the dealer a few weeks ago. It came cut and in the fob, they didn't remove it. It only take a few seconds for the car to learn the new key and its easy to do yourself.

Amazon has the cases for cheap. Basically you'd just need to transfer the guts of the key (circuit board and actual key). I'll be doing this shortly, as my trunk button did the exact same thing about 2 weeks ago, and now I have a hole in one of my fobs

This sounds like the simplest solution. I did this for my Grand AM remote when the casing cracked off too much.

Just a bump - found these guys on amazon - I'm putting my order in today...figure all I'll need to do is swap the actual key part, reprogram, and life is good.
