Normal or NOT ??
So after i installed (X-Force 3" 1 7/8 LT Headers, Borla ATAK and Roto-fab CAI) i got my car
tuned and the car came up pretty good except for one thing and it's driving me crazy , when i race another car (rolling from 40 or 80 km) almost every time i get to take the lead in first through fourth gear and once i shift into fifth the the RPM goes to nearly 4500 which will give the other car a pretty good chance in coming back and start pulling me, so my problem is in fifth gear why it's the only gear that goes below 5000 RPM do i need another tranny tune ? I posted this in the tuning section a couple of days ago and i got 0 response from almost 90 views so i figured it was the wrong section

Just use the lambo instead. Then you'll be ok.

yeah most likely you might need to tune your tranny. get the shift points to engage higher.

It is the step from 4th to 5th. 2 main options......
Set the 4-5 shift point quite a bit higher, which isn't safe on the engine if it is stock, or, Put in a higher stall converter. You will love it all around, and it will keep your rpms from falling way down after a shift. Keeps you in the powerband. I just ordered one from Jannetty for my car. I have ran 2800 to 3200 stalls in many street cars and it is the best bang for the buck mod IMO, short of nitrous. |

the tecu is inside the valvebody of the trans your tuner should have tune it along with the ecu they uasually adjust shiftpoints and remove some torquecontrol

I should add...5th is an overdrive gear, which is why you notice the big drop. You must be FLYING to get a 4-5 shift at wot.
There are other options but none are real good or real cheap..... Add more power by supercharging or whatever. Lots of power and a 4-5 WOT shift might end the trans life though. Install a real tall gear so you don't hit 5th until a higher mph, one that you won't get to. You would lose low end grunt though, and you would need to know what mph you plan on racing to, which is usually a variable. Install a real low gear so you go into 5th much sooner, but that will be hard on the trans since you will be 4-5 WOT shifting more often, and traction will be tough. I think a higher stall converter is your best option. One thing to have your tuner check.....see when the torque converter is commanded to lock at WOT in the tune. It is possible that it is locking up before or during the 4-5 shift. Even with the stock converter, keeping it unlocked until a much higher mph at WOT will help solve your problem, if it really is locked up before the 4-5 shift. Make sure you mention this to the tuner because it may be a cheap easy fix for you.
