Are you touching the heads at all?

So is your question Steve how much gain by adding a cam to a bolt L99 car (including a stall). I'd say 3-5 tenths depending on cam size (small to huge being the range).

Given how good the stock heads are I wouldn't expect much gain from adding heads but there should be a small gain.

It's all kinda relative, look how good Terry and Jeff have done stock internal, I don't know if I have the patience to wait til November for the -500 DA air I saw last year.

My plan is to stall the car with a trans cooler then tune this fall.

Over winter I want to do a VVT cam with just replacing the AFM lifters.

then see where things are.

All these cars should improve in the .5 or better range with a correctly tuned VVT Cam.

John you already have an 11.9x car right now if you had good weather, even without skinnies! Based on your time slip. Patience is hard when you know you can cam it and go much faster.

Terry your car could potentially beat Rhinos record if you gain the same amount he did with this last cam. Low 10.80's?? Whew!! Difference will be your 3200 vs Rhinos 4000 converter.

These are good gains converter is where its at.

But Steve remember that you gotta match the Cam you select to the converter, with a vvt 4 or One of Rhino's bigger cams YOU'LL be golden next spring at Byron (I prefer it at Byron lol) or GLD. I say you do it all at one time so you get the CORRECT cam with its MATCHED stall. There are only a few Converters that I would go with, look into ProTorque (Joe and crew over there are awesome), YANK or Precision. Loose or tight will be up to you. Just my .2

After: LT headers, exhaust, CAI, stall, and cam.

I'm asking because I have LT headers, catback exhaust and CAI. I just did the headers and I want to stall the car before I tune. THEN over winter do a cam.

When I stated that, i was told the difference between before and after would be only a couple tenths.

Understand the variables of DA, wheel spin, etc.

The question was not to a specific cam. If it helps I am looking at the VVT-4 or a custom rhino VVT cam.

As i stated above I plan on doing a stall before I tune for the headers. then over winter do a cam. I was told the difference in 1/4 mile times would be minimal (couple tenths) from a bolt on stalled car and a bolt on stalled + cammed car.
I had headers cai and yank 3200 with hoosiers went 12.20. Added mast ss vvt cam and went 11.39, no other changes.

Yea I know that's a good idea, I know.

I'm wanting to do the converter now to minimize the cost of the cam.

My uncle has built a couple motors including his 383 stroked 82 vet. And is pushing the idea of doing it ourselves.

But im thinking of getting it done professionally. We are talking 1500 in parts alone. If I did a stall and Trans cooler 2500+ and then if I have it professionally done 4200 is the best quote I got.

So if I broke it down in 2 sections its easier to accomplish.
