The LT1 in the Camaro from 2016- 2021 is the same. The ONLY reason GM made a change was from the feedback of customers complaining about having to change the oil for track day events and then switch back to street oil that was 5w30.
The 0w40 allows you to use one oil and covers track and street driving. You can use either 5w30 or 0w40 in your LT1 motor Camaro depending on your driving situation regardless if it is a 2016 or 2021.

Here is a good video of the GM/Mobil 1 rep explaining the new oil. I thought it has some good information and worth watching...

A little short on tech data, but enough to get the point.
Mobil 1 worked with GM to answer a performance concern, and GM threw them a bone by making it the recommended oil for all LT1's moving forward.
Ya gotta have demand for the product or it will go away (or be obscenely over-priced).

I would say GM changed to the 0W40 to allow the owners to track their Corvettes and Camaros with standard fill oil. Remember not everyone that tracks their car is on the forum or spends time on youtube. Since GM warranties the SS, ZL1, and Corvettes for track use it limits the chances of damage from someone who doesn't follow guidelines in the manual.

I do agree, if more users don't fill with the 0w40 it will be some time before you see a comparable price to the 5w30.

Fair enough.
Same reason we get semi-metallic brake pads and summer-only tires as standard eqpt. They are selling a track-ready car.

Your engine knows no difference in 0-40 or 5-30 gettin all wound up about extreme conditions that <1% of you ever even get close to seeing.
