Haha. It’s what gm uses as factory fill. Crazy thing is,it and castrol only dexos 2 certified in 0-40 we can get. If you want to maintain warranty.
Mobil one is fine for street use. I used maxima and Joe Gibbs when I had a cam and aftermarket valve train. |

My advice is if you street drive it like a grandma go with the 5-30.
If you street drive it hard, or drag/track it, go with the 0-40. 0-40 is preferred. 5-30 is acceptable.

Guys, 5w30 is only "okay" if 0w40 isn't available. It's available. It's not even that expensive now. Rockauto sells Mobil 1 0w40 ESP for $6.72/qt. There's really no excuse for not running the actual specified oil. Compared to 5w30, it's thinner at cold startup when you want it to be, and thicker at high temps when you want it to be. On Mobil's own spec sheet it lists the kinematic viscosities at 40C (102F, which is basically a cold start on a hot summer day) and at 100C (fully warmed up to operating temps). At cold startup on a hot day it will take the 5w oil 14% longer to reach lubricated parts because of its higher viscosity. At high temps its higher viscosity and higher high-temp/high-shear viscosity will protect those same parts better.

No it doesn't. The manual for a 2021 says the same thing the manual for my 2020 says:

The 0W40 ESP has a 40C viscosity of 73 cSt and a 100C viscosity of 13.2 cSt. M1 5W30 at 40C is 64 cSt and 11.1 cSt at 100C. 5w30 is THINNER at 40C. So your point is actually in favor of the 5W30 at those temperatures. The 0w40 has more viscosity at the hot end, though, as expected. The 0W vs 5W rating is a moot point for most people. 0w will have a lower pour point (something like -50C?) and unless your driving in a place that reaches negative temps often, won't make much difference at all. |

My ZL1 oil cap has the same 5w30 on it and I am not switching to 0w40 either. Don’t think mine will blow up Farmer Fran!

I plan to keep the oil cap and keep using the 5W30 oil recommended on it
