I had this happen to me last week (I’m in the North Country region of NY). I pushed on the left side until it crunched all the way down, then I wrapped an old work ID from my wallet in a microfiber cloth and went around it gently prying/breaking the ice. It popped open about half way around. Once I got it open I proceeded to remove the built up ice that was on the inside.

Any suggestions?
I suggest you move somewhere significantly more desirable, and possibly park in a garage once there.

Curious, though... would you risk scratching other colors? Summit White? Mosaic Black?

NO !!!!!
Water freezes , pour warm antifreeze on it
Or a blow dryer

Do not use a torch or heat gun ( at close range )

Zack.....anti-freeze is not good for the paint..(google it)...As I suggested earlier, window washer fluid is probably safer....It doesn't freeze in it's reservoir, does it?...If it hurt the paint, they wouldn't have it squirting onto the windshield and roof of the car....

Found this also...good luck...

Another one...

You can use warm water as a quick solution while at the gas station, but then when you get home, do a more preventive measure to remove water/ice completely.

I'm actually kind of in awe that -5 is enough to freeze our gas caps shut. It's been down to the 20's here in GA and I haven't had any problems accessing my fuel tank.

I agree... don't use a heat gun... you can overheat the paint VERY quickly

I would try alcohol. Commercial deicing solutions contain methanol, but isopropyl (i.e. "rubbing") alcohol should do the trick. Also 95% or better ethanol. The mechanism is freezing point depression. Any small amount that mixes with the gas will not be a problem. Small quantities will not attack the paint.
