Just returned from Key West & hit 35 mpg average on the interstate doing 75~80. Granted it's all flat there but cruising through the Keys in "sport" was only about 20 mpg.

No I drive anavearge amount. Gas expense is not a big concern.

I disabled the AFM on my G8- I did not like the vibrations in V4 mode.

Same cylinders. I think its the middle 4, but I am not positive.

Basically, what happens is that AFM activates while the cylinder is on the compression stroke and disables the valves from lifting & the spark from igniting. So the air charge gets trapped inside the cylinder acting like a spring. In essence, the disabled cylinders get caught in a loop of compression/expansion strokes with no ignition until AFM gets turned off.

I agree with you and that would make sense. If you have the AFM hardware already in the motor then why not have the option to use it while cruising on the highway in 6th gear and gain a few MPG. I get 32mpg in my A8 while highway cruising, what's not to like.
The problem with running AFM in a manual Camaro is that there will be some very wonky vibrations transmitted through the rest of the drivetrain. With an automatic, this gets eliminated because of the torque converter. In the Corvette, the torque tube acts as a bit of a damper (Vettes have a rear transaxle instead of a regular transmission attached to the back of the engine).
