Why te Hell doesn't the SS get the MN7

I am so close to pulling the trigger on a new 2 SS, but I want the AFM and 7 speed Tranny. I know, the typical Camaro user will say we don't buy our cars for fuel economy, but I don't care. My now retired 2001 Z28 had 375 HP with minor bolt ons and I still got 30 mpg on the highway. I want the option to have higher fuel economy when I choose.

Do you think this tranny will be available on the 2017 model?

It will not fit in the transmission tunnel

I for one am happy with a 6 speed. I don't see how an extra overdrive helps me, other than helping me miss gears (which I already got covered on occasion). Actually I think 6 speeds are optimal.

Isn't the MN7 heavier?

AFM is not available on the manual Camaros. The M7 doesn't fit the trans tunnel on the Alpha platform.

If you really care about fuel mileage that much you shouldn't be buying a V8 Camaro...

It's either A8 or M6...

The M7 won't physically fit in Alpha...otherwise the ATS-V would have it.

Hypermile it when you can. Easy throttle, shift at low RPM, let the skip shift do..... whatever it is it does (I'll be eliminating mine the day I drive it home from the dealer).

As has already been stated - no 7 speed gearbox for the Camaro. No AFM when you select manual transmission. It will never be available for the Camaro unless they switch to another platform again in 10+ years.

Sounds like you should go with the automatic if you are that concerned with fuel economy. There's a pic floating around here somewhere that one of the Find New Roads drivers took with an A8 SS, and he had the fuel computer selected in the driver display in the instrument cluster. It was showing an instant average of 38 mpg and average of 32 mpg.

Too many gears....

All you need is 6.

Most Stingray owners will admit that rowing 7 gears is a little much.

I think you are just adding an additional underdrive gear with the MN7, so I doubt fuel economy will be that much different.

the EPA ratings have changed since then. so
if the sticker says 28 on your 4th gen and this car says 26 mpg this car should get the same or more. 455hp vs 350hp.

just really bizarre they disabled AFM on the M6

Getting AFM to work smoothly with a manual transmission is down right near impossible.

Very true, they were done at slower speeds with less resistance back then.

I am glad they did, AFM changes the tone of the exhaust when it's on (for the worst), i am not a fan of that at all.

It's not bizarre. AFM increases engine vibrations so they have to deal with that. The torque converter on the autos help. The Stingrays use iron torque tubes to absorb the vibrations which is why they can use it with the M7s. The Camaro manual bolts to the engine so the same set up won't work.
