I learned in an 88 Mazda B2200 5-speed Pickup. It was a handful... no powersteering, no power brakes and a bad clutch. Still loved it though.
Every since then I've been wanting a stick so bad that I'm converting my Sonoma over to stick Now I'm using that B2200 to teach my Girlfriend how to drive stick... haha.

1980 Dodge Omni in 1987. Dad bought it for my brother and I to share as a first car. First time driving it, mom was in the passenger seat, and we were in our driveway. It was plenty long enough to drive down before getting to the road. I start the car, give a little too much gas while letting off the clutch. Didn't stall it, and threw a bunch of gravel taking off... a perfect launch! Mom didn't think so and was yelling for me to stop. So I came to a stop, she jumped out and walked all the way back to the house, refusing to get back in the car. She had never learned to drive and was always nervous while riding in a car. I've been driving sticks ever since.

A 1976 Camaro Type LT. One tough car. That clutch took a real beating.

My 88 Toyota Supra. Already had a worn clutch before I had it. Learned driving it, drove it around for a while with that same clutch until I changed it out in 08. Still own the Supra today and been driving stick since, unless I have to drive others cars.

My friend's 1980 ford courier pickup. I swear that little engine had more oil coated on the outside of it than inside it. It was more of a check the gas and fill the oil kind of truck.

My dad didn't think girls should drive stick, and my boyfriend (who turned out to be my 1st husband - then ex-husband) had a '64 Red Corvette Convertible but wouldn't even let me sit in the driver's seat.
So at 16 (in 1975) one of my "guy" friends had a '67 Corvette Roadster that I learned to drive. I was so nervous because I knew I wasn't learning on a "beater" car - but he was patient with me. Ya, I stalled it lots - very touchy little beast it was. I'll NEVER forget the look on my boyfriend's face when he saw me cruisin' downtown - drivin another "guy's" vette. It was awsome. BTW, he still never let me drive his vette and totaled it a year later... |
