Reminder to clean your steering wheel
All that oil and sweat really takes a toll on the alcantara material and it starts to lay flat and losses it’s fluff. All you need is a few drops of dish soap in warm water. Take a microfiber cloth and rub it clean when the cloth is slightly damp. Then brush it with a toothbrush! On the right of the first photo is not clean while the left is clean. Second photo is finished.

Good thread! I use a soft bristle brush after every other time I drive the car to keep the material from getting matted then every week or two, I’ll use Adams carpet cleaner with a microfiber towel to keep it looking good. Much higher upkeep than a leather wheel/shift knob!

Ugh. As much as I hate it, I wear gloves when driving. Can't bring myself to put my greasy grimy hands on that beautiful wheel.
I'm tempted to pull the trigger and spend $800 on that carbon fiber wheel just so I can touch it with my hands. Sigh. (First world problems.)

Mine still has some staining even though I clean it once a month with a brush, microfiber towel, and rubbing alcohol. It also wears down in the spots my hands tend to touch.

Rubbing alcohol is pretty harsh. The dish soap acts as a surfactant and lifts the dirt off of the fibers.

Griots interior cleaner is nice to use if you have to clean the alcantara. Its gentle and it works.
I use a suede brush I got from amazon to brush the seats, wheel, door panels etc. It keeps them looking good and "opens up" the alcantara. Edit: Thanks Lethal Z Ill check that out as well |

I do 12 oz of water 2-3 drops of dish soap with a cap full of white vinegar. Works great.
