I wonder if he was secretly being a jerk and trying to ruin your car for some reason. You know, where he says: "Oh yeah, do this and it will be great" (where he knows it's a bad idea in the first place).

Oh well, at least you asked and got great advice from the best car forum going.

Just a guess here, but I wouldn't think that adding ANYTHING not specifically designed to be mixed with gasoline and intended for the internal combustion mechanism of a car engine, would be indicated. Way back when, I never liked the idea of even adding the old STP Gas Treatment, or octane boost, or any of that stuff.

I do not use it in the engine oil though, dont like any idea of anything other then oil in the crankcase. I'm sure there is there are plenty others out there but I have had great luck with it.

I use it in my SS as well every oil change, 1/2 through intake and other half in gas tank and I cant say it helps but its not hurting.

Stay way from those old wise tales like bleach and weird shit in the gas and engine or I am sure you will have some issues.

Heart Tablets worked for Burt Munroe!
TBH the bleach thing was perhaps relevant many years ago (you did say he was an old timer) when fuels were more prone to cause carbon build up etc, but I rekon if you stripped one of these motors down after 100,000 clicks these days, you could eat your dinner off it.

Old timers also say change your oil every 3000 miles no matter what, and I bet an old timer would try and rotate the tires on my car

I am not an old timer, I change my oil every 3,000 miles. Mainly because if i don't then the extended warranty i bought for my car becomes invalid.
