You can hope that but at this time with so little known about both cars (especially the Camaro) that is really going out on a limb.

Once we see the new Camaro and the Mustang in the flesh, I also might go C7. Base C7+Z51+Magnaride+NPP looks like the best performance car on the planet for under $100K. And already I see at least 1 dealer discounting.
The Mustang will be lighter in the ecoboost in it, not the 5.0. IRS is heavy. The Camaro in the ATS frame will be lighter and will have the LT1. If not GM is up for a big fail And I will gladly switch to Ford then.

A LT1 2015 Camaro would be a great thing for Camaro fans!! Keep the faith!!

True, but you can easily imagine what an LT1 would do in a ATS. It has to be good!!

The problem is that the ATS won't be as light as it is now, as it's made for a 4 cylinder power plant. With the heavier duty components to support a V8 in it, it will gain some weight. I think it's still a better platform then a polished up S197.

With the base ATS in the mid to upper 3,300 lb range, and the V6 version in the mid 3,400 range, I'm guessing a V8 with the beefier components could come in around 3,550 to 3,600ish range. Thats not exactly light, but a good 300 or so lbs lighter than the current SS. Lighter than the current S197 Mustang, and might be just as light or lighter than the new S550 Mustang. It would be a nice improvement for sure.

Keep an eye on the ATS-V (might be revealed in Detroit?)....I'd say that should give us an idea of what a car with V8-like power and powertrain will weigh on the Alpha SWB chassis. Not sure if the LF3 TTV6 weighs more or less than the LT1 V8, but by the time you remove some of the creature comforts, and the mag ride the Cadillac would have, the Camaro V8 could end up weighing less.

The current S197 Mustang tops out at 3600 in premium trim. A base GT is just over 3500. I'm interested in the weight of the S550 with the V8. I honestly don't think it's going to be any lighter then the S197.

I can imagine that it'll be like the C7. Yeah maybe over the whole line they cut 300-400lbs...BEFORE they added in better, higher quality, and stronger materials. Plus new gadgets and whatnot that today's consumer demands. After all that, I can imagine only the slightest of weight loss...if any. But overall it should be a better performer and be much nicer overall than S197.

Well I don't know what trims they used to get these numbers for the 2014 model, but the Ford website says this:

GT manual: 3,618
GT auto: 3,675

Convertibles are over 3,700

http://www.ford.com/cars/mustang/spe...ions/view-all/

I believe the next gen Camaro SS could get right at or under that weight.

Ford says the goal of the 2015 GT with the Performance Pack is to be faster then the Boss 302. Probably very doable with better brakes, suspension, comparable power and if they can hold the line on weight. I think the 1LE was the track target.

I also think when the next gen Camaro comes out both the Camaro and Mustang will be very close in all areas of performance, weight, and price. So all we have to do is pick the one with the best taillights.

My buddy had a base 2012 GT and I have a 2011 Premium. We both weighed our cars with 1/4 tank of gas and my came out to 3640, and his was just over 3550. I don't know if the 2014s are heavier (doubt it). I think your numbers make sense as well, I'm just going off what I've seen. You are correct though. Which also brings me to this point...why do people say the Camaro is a pig? It's barely heavier then the Mustang as it sits.

SS Camaros are 200-300 pounds heavier than those two numbers. 3,750-3,875 depending on the 2SS, sunroof, and gas.

Once we actually understand gravity, we could maybe fix things with a little black box.
