My 2016 Explorer has been back to the dealer 3 times and the transmission slips like crazy with a whole 6k miles on it now. Started in the first 1500. The Taurus is just as bad, but it’s a bigger car than the Impala and AWD so the guys love them in comparison. We never had Dodges. Township next to us had so many problems they also switched to Ford’s.

We were stupid and bought the 1st year Chargers ('07) NOTHING but problems. We now use a non-ecoboost Taurus AWD and (mechanically) have had decent luck with them and the only problem that we've had with the 4 Explorers is the recall for the exhaust coming into the passenger compartment (which we never had an issue with). I'm a bigger guy, so I miss the bigger cars, but I have to admit the Taurus is not a bad car (just kind of tight wearing full gear).

Speaking from experience as a former owner of an LX style Charger, an SRT8 with the 6.1 Hemi to be precise I can’t say I had any real issues engine wise.

Motor was strong, but the thermostat gave out at 41k miles.

Additionally, the transmission shift solenoids on top of the valve body went to hell around 38K which was expensive to replace. 5 speed transmission was never a strong point in these cars to begin with. Damn Mercedes Benz.

Basically, these cars probably were cheaply made for the most part kind of like the Dodge Caliber at the time, interior wasn’t all that impressive quality.

Still it was a decent and fun car to drive for what it was, a sedan.

A lot of departments here are using Tahoes. State troopers are using a mix of Chargers & Tahoes.
