Well, you're one of few and far between 'round here...

I would say hang in there and get'r fixed up right - keep at it because once its over it'll be worth it.

I’m certified GM tech. I’m been working as a dealer for 10 years now, Send me a PM and i’ll help you get this condition sorted out. A P0641 isn’t a hard code to diagnose and repair but it isn’t an easy one.

Mechanic said they are still trying to pin point the problem. Car runs fine except for randomly so diagnosing is hard when it runs fine. So they are saying

Have they checked the trunk and engine block negative grounds?

Picked up the car from the mechanic today. He said there hasn't been am CEL in 80 miles but he isnt sure the issue is fixed. He thinks it's a wiring harness on the front of the engine that connects to the cam sensor (if anyone knows what harness he is talking about a pic would be nice) . He was going to wait until the CEL came back and shake the harness to see if the problem goes away.

At this point the car is driving fine and I just wanted to get it out of that shop so if it happens again I will take it elsewhere.

No they just put the keys in the mailbox and said I can pick it up because I asked to. But he did say he didnt really fix anything though and was waiting for the issue to come back so he can diagnose.

I drove it about 100 miles more so far and no CEL. I do think his idea of a front harness connection being the problem could be true. When this issue popped up the first five minutes of owning the car I did hit a driveway pretty hard with the lower aftermarket lip cracking. Maybe somehow that moved the harness he was talking about.

At this point I'm torn on whether to dispute the original charge. I have only a few days left to do it. I did not approve any amount over the 200 diagnosis fee and was surprised with 1600 but they did "work" on the car even though it may not be fixed.

Check the trunk ground and the passenger side engine ground now that you've got the car back just to make sure they're all good

What should I be looking for? Just that everything is tight and no corrosion?

I will pull it in the garage and look at it at lunch
