Interesting Read

Interesting thoughts, and in my opinion, he is probably pretty accurate.

I've felt the same for a long time. The LT1 is the cats meow.

Even if Ford throws 450HP at the new 5.0, it will still not match the max torque and fantastic torque curve of the LT1. I don't think in the end that the Camaro will weigh a lot more than the Mustang if any, so I can't wait to see what happens.

I think if GM can get the weight down enough on the 6th gen and doesn't water down the power on the LT1 to keep Vette guys happy, they have the chance to outclass the Mustang in both the 1/4 mile and around a track. GM has a huge opportunity and I expect them to take full advantage of it.

The Vette will still weigh less than the Camaro so having the same motor shouldn't be a problem.

Yet they still water down the Camaro engines.

Bring it on. But Ford won't settle for that. They will bring out something equivalent to the LT1. Then GM will have to engineer something with more power.

Im not worried, they almost defy the laws of physics with the 5th gen. When they apply that magic to an alpha based Camaro, good things will happen.

As long as I can remember going back to 1993 the Vette and Camaro have always had the same base engine and transmission (exception L99) so why would that change now. I'm sorry, but this doesn't look like news to me. New would be if the Camaro had a different engine or a lower HP version which GM hasn't really cared about for awhile now, there used to be a time when they didn't want to offend Vette owners but that time has long passed. The Vette is a totally different animal.

Same goes for "news" about the Camaro sharing the same chasis as the ATS and weighing less than the current platform...not news unless that changes.

What year was the last time GM did this? 2001 with a 25hp difference. That was 13 years ago. The 2002 Vette had the new LS2 and the 2002 SS had the old LS1 so they don't count. Of course the Camaro was gone until 2010 but that doesn't help- my case so I'll stop here.

I disagree. If you look at the most recent Camaros. The ZL1 and Z28 both received engines that were in other cars that ended up with more power. The LSA in the ZL1 has better parts and is good for more HP than the 556hp version in the CTS-V and the LS7 in the Z28 has more TQ than the version in the out going Z06.

The Camaro team has said before that there is no rule that a Camaro or any car for that matter can't have more power than a Corvette. Quite frankly if there's a business case for it then they are gonna sell it!

Yea was gonna comment about that watered down engine opinion. I dont agree with that at all. Big O was even quoted on saying that he has never been told to not step on the toes of the vette guys. The corvette isnt keeping the camaro back in terms of performance. It the goal of trying to keep it at a certain price range

Ford has already mentioned they were not interested in being the top dog anymore. They just want to sell well globally hence the look of the new body style. Shouldn't be hard for the Camaro to continue outselling Mustangs with the 6th gen. GM hopefully will take full advantage for the next gen.
