Whipple belt issues

Finally had a chance to drive my 1le after the whipple 2.9 install. The initial tune and drive went great up till the return trip to the shop. The drive belt walked and shredded 2 ribs. Whipple admitted to it being a problem they seen with their own test car. So they sent out what they figured would be a solution, a ziplock bag full of various thickness washers to space out the idler & tensioner pullies. A halfass repair in my opinion. Well everything was installed per their instructions. All was well for 3 days. Car ran great. While i was sitting at a light i heard the sickening tap. Pulled over and popped the hood to see that the belt had walked off the pulley and shredded 2 ribs among the other damage to hood insulator and catch can lines, hoses etc. really at a loss of what to think about whipple at this point. They have admitted to knowing they have a problem but seem very slow to offer any solution.. really feel as they rushed a product with very little r&d to market a lil too fast. And now it seems we are the beta testers..

Yikes. Sorry to hear that. Seems all you early adopters are having nothing but problems. Hope whipple figures it out...will likely be going twin turbo anyways

Wow!! Just awful! Really sad to see these issues. I know it's a new product and all and this is the place where we would come with such issues but man... c'mon Whipple needs a better showing then what I've seeing lately. Really has me knocking on wood dude. I hope they take care of EVERYTHING and get you back going quickly.

Pretty common among ANY supercharger system not just Whipple. Spacing with washers and shims is the method to correct it. Get a laser pulley alignment tool and do it that way and all will be well.

YEP, went threw this with Mike (spacers) I wanted to buy everything to fix alignment, but he gave me a hard time. So I machined my own. Yes like noted, laser for alignment, and correct tension. Welcome to the great world of "Test Dummy".....LOL. Note: mine is coming OFF...AGAIN, that will be NO#3. But I'm fixing it. Whipple doesn't know how, and I told them, but I'm just a stupid mechanic. Maybe I'll let them use MY machine shop...lol

My friend had the same problem as yours. In his case, he got the pulley moving back and forword due to the wrong depth for the bearing. It causes the alignment is not fixed.

Yes, as I said, the bearing is NOT supported 100 per cent. Just 50 and it moves.
So, I machined spacers to support bearing and solid mount pulley. Easy fix....Whipple, QUOTE: "You don't need to do that"!.....OK...lol

You have a Maggie, thats why. I was going to buy one, I was right there. Then went brain dead...lol. I have had more problems with mine, I should have done everything on quick disconnects, that way removal would be minutes...lol.

Brettman, I wish you had. It is a cool setup, reliable and makes great power. I've been just riding along watching the issues of the Whipple. I have to say its all about testing, quality control and customer service, as a Team Member of Magnuson and knowing many of the staff there its been a great experience and it starts at the top with Mike Sitar (toohighpsi) who is the leader and is dedicated to the best product available. Plus he likes to go really fast and lives and breaths performance. Besides that he's a pretty cool guy to hang out with and just BS about the performance world.

Everything was fixed a week after the post. It was a improperly machined snap ring groove on the idler and tensioners. Was off by .02. Problem did not make itself known till the parts were up to operating temps and the pulleys walked back & forth causing the belt to jump and shred. So far 2000 miles later after the bad parts were replaced i have had not one issue. No rattle etc. the final power numbers after the rotofab was 630/615.

What other mods do you have? 630 on stock fuel system with out meth kinda dangerous. I see your running the same pulley as me and with headers meth and rotofab I’m at 640. Was this on a mustang or dynojet
