Kickdown timing

23' v6 auto and when i nail it while moving, it kicks down to
A lower gear like 2nd or 3rd but keeps the revs high for
A long time. Most autos i have driven shift back to the
Higher gear when you let up on the gas.

It sounds like you are in Sport Mode and activated the Performance Shift function. It keeps the RPM's in the power band so long as you are driving in a spirited fashion (and it considers braking and cornering in addition to acceleration). After seven seconds of "normal" driving, the car will exit Performance Shift, reduce the RPM's and shift normally.

You can activate the Performance Shift function manually when the transmission is in automatic mode by a quick tap of the throttle pedal (some people say tap to the floor, but you should eventually be able to activate it will less of a tap). A "Performance Shift Activated" message will display on the screen between the tach and speedo.

If your V6 has NPP, tap it into the Performance Shift mode at 45-50 mph coming up to a stop and you'll get a great sounding downshift.

How do I keep it from going into performance mode. I want to nail it thru a yellow light but when Iam thru the intersection it goes right back to the higher gear and drop the rpm's.

Sounds like you just need to not mat the pedal or go WOT if you want to avoid the performance shift modes, there's no on/off otherwise, its gonna be on and off depending on the pedal and how it feels you driving the car.

If you have the paddle shifters, you can just pull and hold the up shift one for a few seconds and it will go back into Drive. At least that works on the V8.

are you in sport mode? performance shift only kicks in sport mode and it let you know in the screen that it has been activated. If you don't want performance shift then drive in tour mode and it will never kick in.

As noted above, you only get the performance shift function in Sport mode, so driving in Tour mode would prevent it.

I forgot to mention one additional tip for you! If you want to manually exit Performance Shift mode, just pull the shifter to the left, into the manual shifting position, and then push the shifter back to the right to return to automatic mode.

Would it be better to just cruise the yellow light. Your noise and cops know by sound you're in a rush.
