Well just got my car back, man did they just lie to my face etc, etc. They stated that they cut my oil filter open and said everything was ok. Which I asked to see the said cutting. Turns out they are BSing me the filter they showed me isn't even the one for the car. The on the bill it states that they put 3 qts. in and in the notes it was said to be only 2 low. Hmmmm it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out. Oh I am don't done with these guys yet, They also told per chevy that the first dot on the oil dipstick is ok range will not cause engine damage?

I got my oil changed at Precision Tune at 2000 miles. I've taken my last couple cars there, never had an issues. Hell, this time, the guy behind the counter was so enthralled by my Camaro, I even got a discount, lol. Awesome looks and NPP does that to people, I've noticed. But of course I get as close as they will let me and watch them like a hawk.

The plus side of going to the dealer is that you have records saying they changed the oil and are mostly liable if anything goes wrong from said oil change.

If you do them yourself and something goes wrong (even if not your fault), good luck.

right, and by that time you've spent exactly the same amount of your time as it would have taken to do the oil change yourself, and you still paid for it. Not to mention time and gas driving to and from the oil change place.

I've done this sort of thing a couple of times (not for oil changes, but bigger jobs) and finally realized it was fairly counterproductive.

Good luck proving the dealership did something wrong, is liable, or getting them to pay also. If someone hops in your car and starts it dry while the oil's drained, do you think they'd call you and tell you? Or just say oops, fill it up and give it back to you hoping it makes it out of the driveway before it starts knocking?

At least if I do have a brain fart and screw up at home, I know what happened.

during warranty, i take any of my cars back to the dealer for the oil change. that way, its on THEIR record and THEIR computers that i did it. and usually, the past several cars i bought new, i negotiated "free" oil changes too.
My current camaro has 1500 miles on it, i've had it a year, and technically was built over 2 yrs ago, and i have negotiated free oil changes with this car too.
i didnt realize the 6.2 took 8 quarts. wow.

They can't deny warranty claims just because you do your own maintenance, as long as you keep decent records.

I think "3-4 quarts low" is an estimation, since the dipstick really only shows about 1-1.5 quarts of fluid level from the tip of the stick to the top of the hash marks. Unless it's different for you big-engine guys, but I thought most dipsticks are pretty standard.

This is one more reason I do as much of my own maintenance work as I can.

-The oil gets filled to the proper level and the correct weight and type of oil is used, EVERY TIME.

-The drain plug NEVER gets overtightened or cross-threaded.

-The filter housing or cartridge casing NEVER gets torqued on too tight.

-The tire pressure is always checked and corrected, and never over-filled.

-The washer fluid reservoir always gets filled up with washer fluid, and not tap water.

-Wheel lug nuts are uniformly hand-torqued to spec and are never over-tightened

-All other fluids get checked, never just a "meh, looks good, I'm sure everything else is fine" -type inspection.

-There's never a tech or lot attendant having a bad day moving the car around or working under the hood.

Is all this worth maybe an hour of my time, in my own garage, with good music playing, wrenching on a hot car? Abso-friggin-lutely.
YUP and AMEN to that....

1. There is no such thing as a free lunch.
2. If I can't see the oil change taking place, I don't get my oil changed there.
3. Find a great trusted mechanic and keep your receipts in the glove box.

Free maintenance 2 year/24,000 miles. I'd take advantage too. haha
