if i'm not mistaken, the turbo 4 for the mustang is supposed to be the mid tier car, where the v6 is the low tier.

Quote:
The EcoBoost is expected to produce 305 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque, compared to 300 hp and 270 lb-ft for the V-6.

First of all, look at the old 4 cylinder camaros. They're shit
Mazda has some kick ass I4 turbos in those MS3s.

Putting a 4 cylinder turbo in the mustang means that the mustang will be slower than the ford focus ST.

Putting a 4 cylinder turbo in the camaro would mean the same thing for chevy's low end cars.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE GM NO I4S
I didn't have to go past the bolded sentence to realize this post deserves a

Sure...lets go back 30 years and judge everything based on that. Makes complete sense right???

would be awesome to have a twin turbo v6 making 400hp as the mid tier. can have the NA v6 with 350ish hp, and then the SS with 455.

Since you're all being big babies about it, think of it this way

the old 4 cylinder camaros were terrible
people bought these terrible camaros
those same people will, no matter ignorant you think of them, not want to buy another 4 cylinder camaro.

and when I say they're terrible, I mean in comparison to the V8s of the 80s.
a 4 cylinder camaro in 2016 would be terrible in comparison to the V8 of 2016

/end

They also weren't turbocharged. I direct you to look at the Mustang SVO of the 80s.

And being that the LFX makes 323/278 and the current 2.0T in the ATS and the Malibu makes 265/295... I am 110% sure that a I4T would be perfectly fine in the new Camaro. Hell, it would be fine in this Camaro with a power bump...

if ford is making a turbo 4 with 305hp and 300tq, I can't see Camaro making a turbo 4 that's not around the same. if they do make a turbo 4 around that power, I can see the v6 staying the same.

Who would want a 4cyl Camaro?

Someone who doesn't define themselves by the number of cylinders the car they purchased has.

And personally, the turbo 4 is more appealing then the v6 naturally aspirated.

does it really matter how many cylinders it is, if its gonna give a decent output? or are some people still stuck in a "stick rub fast, fire burn" caveman mindset about technology?

as someone just pointed out, fords new ecoboost engine is 4 cylinders and putting out roughly what their current v6's are doing.

if chevy follows suit, then whats the problem?

I agree, if I was in the market for a new Camaro right now, and couldn't afford a v8, i'd pick the turbo 4 over the v6, if the performance was similar.
