Keep My ZL1 Brakes or Upgrade to Z/28?

I have ZL1 Brakes on my 2015 2LT. I may soon have the opportunity to buy new Z/28 Brakes for under $4,000. If I did that and sold my ZL1 Brakes I'd have new CCB for about $2,000, which feels like a once in a lifetime price.

This is my daily driver and I do not plan on tracking this car. The track-oriented performance of CCB is not lost on me, I just love their look and it feels approachable at ~$2,000 over my current setup.

I've gone back and forth for 6 months on keeping my current brakes or upgrading to Z/28. I don't have any other ways that I'd like to spend the same amount on this car (I do have some smaller pending purchases), as the cars peak performance is less important to me than how it feels when driven.

What do you think? Should I stick with what I have or bite the bullet and buy the Z/28 setup now before it's sold and never available at this price again?

For street, keep the ZL1 setup. Other than appearance, you won’t see any benefit with the Z/28 brakes.

When I read 'This is my daily driver and I do not plan on tracking this car.', your response is exactly what I thought.

TC, if you were tracking this car I would say hell yeah, go for it. But on a daily driven street car, the ZL1 brakes are already better than most other cars on the road today.

I would be more concerned with running the highest quality pads and stainless brake lines you can afford.

It's not $2k after you factor in cost of the zl1 brakes and you'll probably get less than you paid so even bigger difference. Also, if peak performance isn't a concern why would, you want them?

It's your money to spend how you want, but for me I wouldn't spend that kind of money for brakes on a daily driver. The replacement cost when you do need to replace them is insane. The ZL1 brakes will cost significantly less to replace eventually.

If this wasn't a daily driver I'd still think it was overkill, but technically so are large cams and superchargers on V8 street only cars.

Yes large cams are overrated especially the way most ppl add them without stalls or the right chutch. Usually they are out of most ppl daily driving rpm ranges so yeah its a waste and then wonder why baby cams ls are winning

I was saying that large cams and superchargers were overkill on street only cars because technically you shouldn’t be racing on the streets so that kind of power on a road that won’t typically be able to hold the tires is rather pointless. Am I opposed to them? Hell no! My point was that the Z/28 brakes are overkill because a V6 daily driver car that appears to not be a track car at all are overkill because you won’t really need that kind of stopping power on a regular daily driver car and will cost a fortune to replace when you need to. However, I have said it before and I’ll say it again. Until I start funding your build, I have no right to tell you how to build your car.

It's already been said but zl1 brakes themselves are already overkill for your driving, I'm installing cts-v brakes soon on my ss which I track here and there and will admit currently with no added power they themselves are overkill (although they look awesome haha). But for the price you can't beat them. Personally, I think you should put the money towards some power mods or something similar.
