I had my heart set on a gen 6 ss but found a 1LE by chance with amazing discounts. No regrets here. I need some driver mods just to use the car to it's full potential.

OP I also owned a '13 1LE. And yes it is more fun if you appreciate good handling. I think the older 1LE would hang with a new manual SS on a track but it is slower in a straight line. After owning a 1LE I think I will be happy with the new SS. And I am sure there will be some parts from the new 1LE I can cherry pick if I want. The new 1LE will take the handling up a notch. But mainly it will allow the 1LE to stay fast longer on a track at top performance, use softer tires that will wear sooner, provide aero with more down force, and maybe some gearing changes. Don't expect it to run with a GT350R.
Also don't expect it to be faster on a drag strip if it does not get a power bump, it will be slower than a standard CA6 SS in the 1/4. The last 1LE was slower than a standard SS anyway. I owned and drag raced both.

Even the magazine tests showed the 5th gen 1LE to be quicker in a straight line. |

I enjoyed the 1LE more but it was a little frustrating drag racing it. No stock 1LEs ever came close to the fastest standard LS3 SSes on the fast list. But to be fair to your view there were not as many 1LEs and even a fewer precentage drag raced them. But the ones that did probably were better drivers on average. No one here should be buying a 1LE for straight line speed unless there is a power bump. Just my 2 cents. But on a track the 1LE comes alive. That's its home.

I looked at the 5th gen 1LE market before deciding to buy a 16 2SS. The only reason I didn't buy it is that the 5th gen 1LE wasn't significantly different in appearance from the 5th gen SS. Now, had the Z28 come down considerably in price, I would have seriously considered that option...lol...what Chevy lover wouldn't
