Loss of HP?

I know there are probably threads on this, but i couldn't find them. I deleted the muffler on my car and a mechanic told me that in the process i probably lost 20 horsepower. I thought the cats, and resonator would keep enough. Anyways, I'm not an engine specialist or very mechanical savvy, did i make a good or bad decision? and did i actually lose hp? He also said that putting it on the dyno before and after will show that i actually did, but i haven't/didn't do so.

Muffler delete you will not loose HP. If you cut out the H-Pipe on LS3 or resonator on L99 and do not X-Pipe it you will loose HP and TRQ due to loss of cylinder scavenging.

Mechanic is wrong...stock muffler basically goes straight through with a small J pipe for drone. All you really did was increase volume/drone and lose lbs, but no loss of power.

He's talking about backpressure, which has been banned from Camaro5.

My car has a muffler delete (until today, that is) and I didn't notice ANY drop in power when I had it done. I never it properly checked, but from what I could tell from the "seat-of-my-pants" it was just fine. Still broke the tires loose if I wasn't paying attention or any little mix-up like it was nothing.
