Lifter Noise

I took my 2010 L99 to the Chevy dealer back on 1/11/12 for the engine noise and of coarse no abnormal noise found. I gotten used to the noise plus with the addition with me mods it muffled the noise but lately there'a a very loud engine noise when I start the Camaro. It's still sounds like a lifter tappet noise. Question:

I purchased the Camaro in 7/1/09 and have 41k miles. I have the standard 5 year/50k miles warranty for the powertrain. So my warranty expired on 7/1/14, 10 days ago. Since I have proof I took it to the dealer on 1/11/12 for the engine noise should this still be covered?

Definately worth a shot. I whould show them the documenation and see what they say. However with a tune, they may turn you away since it looks like you have AFM tuned out.

I would still try though.

I can put it back to the stock tune which I know they'll be able to tell. Any ideas on how much it would cost to have the lifters replaced?

If you dealer really wants to fix the problem, they would keep the car over nite to get a real cold start. That allows the lifters drain of oil, then the noise will occur. The lifters will make noise on first start of the day. That is what required according to GM.

Don't worry about the warranty, There was a GM maint. bulletin About three years ago, it's cover. You can find that bulletin on this forum.

That didn't occur to me until you just stated it, it's a TSB. It should be covered regardless.

About $2,500. Mine were done under warranty, but that's what the job was worth at dealer rates.

It's a big job, as the heads come off.

Video the problem, that way its easy to duplicate for the dealership, that's how I got my lifters replaced.otherwise they won't be able to duplicate it and can send you on your way,oh wait, that's what they did last time. With video it can't be denied.I made 2, told dealership to keep one and send GM the other.problem solved
