IRVING TEXAS PAINTED STRIPE NIGHTMARE

Seems I can't catch a break with my new Camaro. I went to pick it up from a yet unnamed body shop in Irving TX and Ohh my FU$k!! it was a DISASTER.

I know I'm going to hear some "I told you so's" based on this thread (not directed at me in particular) so let me start with past experience. I had a New white 2010 Mustang GT convertible. Went to a body shop across the street from my job (in west palm beach FL) and told the guy I want gloss black rally stripes front to back bottom to top every bit if white will have the black stripe (then I gave him measurements from a Cobra I measured on a dealer lot, I think it was 8" w/3"white x another 8" stripe). No searching for the right paint shop no crazy back and forth and for $1100 I got the stripes (under the clear) and that was that (BTW... EVERYONE loved them)

Current day... My white 2016 SS convertible dropped off for basically the same treatment. This time I did some research and saw good Google reviews for a local paint/ auto body shop so I took her in. The owners son and the guy who does all the painting for the small shop looked at my car and after much discussion it was determined they could do the stripes (same as B4.... gloss black rally stripes front to back bottom to top every bit if white will have the black stripe) this time I even gave the guy vinyl stripe kit to use as a guide/template (pic attached... mines a vert but I bought this kit for a template) for the stripes.

I go to pick it up and I'm like, I just destroyed a beautiful white SS (crooked lines, bleed through, hood stripe perfect size but when the decal template ran out the lines got crooked, the small white space between the windshield and vert roof the 2 black stripes were smaller than the rest of the car by about 3/4") I could go on even more but suffice it to say I could have done a better job myself and I've never worked in a body shop.

Now I'm stuck... I won't go into a lot of detail now but let's just say I had no choice but to let them repaint the stripes and pray they don't Fu$k me again... I'll update next week when I go back to get her.... best case scenario, they get it right after our "discussion" or worst case I've got to spend BIG BUCKS and find some professionals to fix it... every panel front to back. Ughhhh FML.. Doesn't anyone give a fu$k anymore? How hard is it to paint 2 11" stripes separated by 3"s of white down the middle?!!!

Your experience sounds horrible. I had a similar experience with a shop painting body color hood vents. They screwed them up royally and now I'm stuck with these expensive things. I will have them repainted this summer, but I have to remove the paint the jerk applied...lots of work.

This is why I would never paint stripes on. Vinyl is practically fool proof.

Can't see anything from here, but ......

Talked to my shop that does my spot work and he told me $3-4K for the hood, roof and decklid. Basically they sand the whole hood, roof between the rails and the decklid. Then paint the stripes, sand, and then clear and buff it out etc.

So if you didn't pay that much then .....

This was my last job done, it was $1800 for the hood and roof and install the 5th gen vent. The roof was a straight forward sand and paint between the rails. No edge between the black and white.

Looks good. All I can do now is pray. I'll keep everyone posted.

Belt Line Auto Body (Irving TX) NIGHTMARE

Guys. In my quest for a unique SS and after much discussion with the painter and his manager (at Belt Line Auto Body on Beltline Road in Irving TX) It trusted a bunch of AMATURES with my car.

The pics attached are from the 2nd time they painted it.. or the Re-Paint. Most who know me would say I'm a tough guy but the first time I saw the car all jacked up by these fools I wanted to cry, my only thought was "I ruined a $50,000.00 car"

Avoid this place at all costs. There's still not one thing symmetrical (?), not one straight line or line that's the same width. FML

Dang, that is jacked up. See if they pull their heads out and let a grown up tape and paint it this time. If it comes back messed up again I would contact a lawyer. As far as the paint you can do a full body wrap to hide it at least.

Beast of luck, fingers crossed they do it right.

I would ask for a full refund and then have them pay for it to get repainted or wrapped by someone reputable.
