What should the GM answer be in response to the 2013 GT500 Crustang?

First off, I am a die-hard Chevy owner with a 2SS/RS and a C6 Z06. I just read in Car & Driver that Ford's response to the ZL1 is a 650 horsepower GT500. Thats pretty crazy. Just when I thought the GT500 was gonna be trumped by some forced induction medicine. Now GM has to up the ante again. What do you all think they should do now?

Until we see comparison reviews of both, how do we know anything needs to be done?

I think they should wait until we get the ZL1 delivered and see how it stacks up. The current GT500 runs some pretty awful 1/4 miles and with only a couple mods, Camaros can run with them. I also think the ZL will be an all around better car even if the GT500 beats it in the 1/4. Car and Driver said they think the GT500 will run mid 11 second quarter mile. Chevy says 12.0 for the ZL...GM should wait.

This thread is redundant, but just for the record, until you see what actually happens the only thing that you can base an opinion on is some dry ink on a page.

personally I don't know if I can tolerate another thread on this topic. I think there needs to be a forum just for this topic.

There are really two options. be happy you have a better looking car or mod the car to have more hp.

what did people do before the ZL1? they modified an SS

Seems the only option any more is not to even read the board....the position has been overrun, need artillery, airstrikes danger close....fall back...fall back...

how much would it cost to make a mustang actually look good?

*This is simply an example. I'm not saying your girlfriend/wife looks bad.*
I love the Mustang just not the 05-present... the 04's are my favs as far as looks

Umm...Chevy answered already...with the ZL1. The new GT500 is awesome, no doubt. But a Camaro guy is not going to buy it...just like the Mustang guy is not going to like the ZL1.

Get your panties unbunched and go pick your favorite...then enjoy your decision.

As many have said, this recent Camaro-Mustang HP war is getting old before either car actually hit production. There is so much more to a car than pure engine crank rated HP numbers. RWHP is a better number to quote with assumed drive-train loss, but then again that in itself is pretty subjective due to the different dynos and atmospheric conditions at the time of the test.

I am ordering the ZL1 (convertible actually) for the complete package and the detailed engineering that has gone into its final form.

I am sure the upcoming Mustang will be produced as they say and will be a rocket, but how many people can actually use 650 crank HP on the street (....or 580 for that matter lol).

I have 632 RWHP on my boosted 426 Magnum SRT8 and have had to re-learn how to drive that thing on the street, and unless the road is bone dry, traction is an issue even with the huge 295 rubber I have on the back.

Now the track is a whole other story and I can't wait to give the ZL1 a rip on a road course and 1/4 mile

okay what is your point. any car gets faster with DR. would not take more mods extra than a gt500 cost.

I could buy a 2012 45th avirsary 2ss and put an eforce on it for 45k out of pocket add dr and it would run with if not beat a gt500. what is the difference?? 45k out of pocket. 2012 car. cheapest 2012 GT500 on ebay 48.5k.

DR work both ways. am I missing something? the SS will still not handle great but the GT500 is not a world beater there either.

bottom line buy the car you like they both will go fast.
