2017 alfa romeo giulia quadrifoglio or a 2017 ZL1 A10?

The quadrifoglio will do 3.7 to 60 and 11.7 in the 1/4 not to shabby for a 4 door RWD sedan. Had a pretty good ring time too. Both nice cars, but i think I would go with the ZL1.

They're also just a few pennies different in price...

Also in different segments and for different purposes. I think the ZL1 is clearly the better value..but the Guilia is straight up amazing.

Sports car ZL1....I have a family so if I wanted a family car rocket the alfa. problem is alfa dealers are so hard to find. 2 hours to get to one. That's a deal breaker.

From what i am seeing a well equipped quadrifoglio will run closer to $80,000 with a msrp starting around $70,000. The interior reminds me of my older BMW, the seats are very nice. Would love to see it in person one day but rare in my neck of the woods.

I like a lot of things about the Alfa, but there are also a lot of things I look at and don't like. The front end looked OK when I first saw it but it already is losing my favor. interior, performance look great. if you need to stand out I think it's great but my vote goes to the M3 for family sedan with track prowess. It's less dramatic than the others in the segment but I think it's the best all-rounder.

If the back seat is to be used, the camaro is rather annoying. I don't really love it as a daily driver either. I absolutely loved DDing my M3s but I've grown to be a little high maintenance now that I'm in my 30s lol.

I understand cross-shopping two similarly priced cars with different purposes... they both have speed, fun and sport in common so that's all that matters! Good luck!

Why is it that I have the feeling the Alfa will be a troublesome car?

Because it's made in Italy! I lived and worked in Italy for 6 years and Alfas were not a very reliable car. Fit and finish were only average and things had a tendency to fall off. In my office, we leased cars rather than owning them and we changed them every three months for some dumb US government reason, so I experienced many Alfas, Smart Cars, etc, etc. Granted, they were all basic models. Very noisy and clunky in operation.

Yeah, that must be it. But, the food in Italy is to die for.

I think Crysler did some great cross pollination with Mercedes, and now if they can get some aesthetics from Fiat/Alpha things could get interesting. Imagine a giulia like vehicle with a 707 HP hemi!

You need some serious gigantic balls to drop $70k on a tech heavy alfa sedan with a new platform, new dohc high boost v6 engine, and new trans.

I was originally going to replace my 2012 5.7 Charger AWD with this car and drive it all year round until I came to my senses. I love this car on paper but Fiat/Chrystler is a mess and this car is a potential time bomb. No one is going to buy it and they're trying to sell Alfa Romeo off for cash. There's also no Alpha dealer really anywhere that close to me. The smart thing to do is wait a year or 2 and then get one used. I bet they depreciate more than a MB, so you'll get a good value that way if you really want it.

I ended up keeping the Charger since it has an unlimited mileage, bumper to bumper warranty with a $150 deductible and loaner coverage from Dodge. It's got 105k miles and is now my winter beater / kid-hauler...I'm gonna drive it until either it or Dodge explode lol

I can't speak for the post US Alfa's when Fiat took over, but I have owned 4 vintage Alfa's for many many years. Taken care of they were bullet proof fantastic drivers. Treated like a toyota they will give you fits. Time will tell if the new cars comming over will be difficult to own or not, they need to get it right to survive.

The downfall of Alfa was after WW2 when ownership fell into the government hands. They were a producer of very high end cars before the war, then forced to produce cars of much less stature after. That said they still managed to produce some wonderful cars, until about 1989. Fiat took over and really screwed up switching to common fwd platforms and quirky electronics. The Giulia is either going to make or break their return to the US.

In general I have found the reliability issues to be more of a misunderstanding of the cars themselves. Fear of mechanical injection, mal adjusted mech injection, failure to retorque head gaskets etc. The 1970's which sealed the deal on the perception of reliability had two faults. Untrained mechanics attempting to adjust the injection, and Alfa's lack of information distribution to properly adjust the system. It is sequential, you can't skip any steps, and special tools are needed. The other issue was common to most cars built during that time period, rust. Lack of interior panel rust treatment, coupled with the use of cheap steel also caused some issues in the 60's through the 70's, but in reality all cars had issues with rust during this time period.

Like any new car, I would wait for the dust to settle, and see what problems arise. Just like looking at the warranty section here in the 6th gen forum, not exactly trouble free as it should be.

I seriously dig the Quadrifoglio. My neighbor is a sales manager for a dealership network and said they are getting 19 Giulias. If he can get his hands on a Quad, we are going to go "test" it in the hills behind our neighborhood.

I bet it's lots of fun, but no US manual killed it for me.
