Durability
Based on what we have read and experienced....how do you think the car and all it's parts will hold up over a little time?

The ZL1 in my honest opinion is purposefully built to be modified and powered well beyond what has been delivered from the factory. All the underpinnings, MR suspension, transmission, rear axle housing, LSA, etc...etc..are the groundwork for a car to be maximized by the performance market to develope it to it's true potential. That is if the buyer chooses to do so. Solid as a rock the car is. No doubt.

Are hyperuteitic pistons and powder metal rods your ideal of solid as a rock?

That was one of my first thoughts too, but there are a lot of CTSV engines that are up to 700hp long term without failure.

We have professional engine shop sponsors here who have posted their build info. One highly notable builder has documented that the factory short block is good for 700 HP. That's solid as a rock my friend....and I'd be plenty good to go with that output for my ride.

Given that the warranty carries over to track days, GM must feel pretty good about what they have built. I am personally putting out about 770 crank HP and so far, no troubles at all. Took the car on a 800 mile round trip journey and averaged 20 mpg on the highway at 70-75.

I just worry about tunes , fuel quality, and detonation. What happens the first time you go lean, or get too aggressive with the timing? With those internals there is not much room for error. I understand under perfect conditions 700 HP might be ok but under real world conditions I'm not so sure. If Im trying to sell my preformance products I might possibly push the hp envlope. People will, and time will tell.

I hope Camzl1 recent steering failure is not a sign of future things to come. We still have no answers to what the QC hold was before they would release the 12's

On the other hand, depending on their driving habits, the miles they do put on the car may be a bit harder on the engine than normal miles. |
