Where are you getting muffler delete kits? - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

I posted a thread on getting a more manly sound out of my 2010 Camaro 2SS (L99 Automatic) while still being affordable and most suggested I do a muffler delete.

I've looked online and get the idea but I'm trying to find out where it is people are getting the kits from? Most say they got it done at a 'shop' or bought a kit and then there are the DIY'ers.

I looked online and only found this kit:

Besides the near $400 Stainless Works Muffler Delete one.

Most say they got the muffler delete done sub $100?

Do I honestly just walk into a local auto shop and ask for a muffler delete and that is it? I don't like the idea of cutting out stock parts in case stuff happens in the future though.

I also heard some people re-use their current tips rather than buy new ones? If I want modularity, should I buy new ones so that I can put stock ones on in the future or is there no difference?

I reused my tips and had a local shop do it here in north Alabama for 100$. It sounded better but still wasn't loud enough for me...get some headers too with either hi flow cats or cat deletes. Cutting out your stock mufflers won't do any harm besides make you romp on it harder and reduce car weight. With the aftermarket versions you still have to cut out your factory suit cases and they would only go back on with some welding. Just go and ask your local shop to cut the suitcases out place a tube back in its place and re use your tips.

My local exhaust shop ordered my magnaflow competition exhaust. It's muffler delete.

Don't buy a kit unless you wanna do it urself which obviously you don't. You just go to the shop they cut the mufflers off and weld on a pipe in place of it. Don't worry about your stock mufflers they are usually trashed. You can even buy quad tips for a cooler look. (2 on each side) but then you would need a new rear diffuser. (Less than $100)

Ditto. Muffler shop is way to go. Cut out suitcase, replace resonator with small muffler with built in crossover and you're done. $400 complete and it included new larger ss tips.

I did a Muffler delete and resonator delete with an X pipe. love the way it sounds. Its not super loud in my opinion and it has a really nice deep tone when just driving and screams when you get into it

So I'm getting confused. In other threads, people said I only needed to do a muffler delete.

Do I need to get rid of my resonator as well? And if so why?

Should I keep the muffler? I don't mind in case I need it again.

No you don't have to get rid of your resontators. But it's just something else restricting exhaust flow, but isn't necessary. After I installed my headers and high flows and got rid of the resonators, I cut the old mufflers off, drove down to muffler shop down the road (they weren't busy) and about an hour later, they had bent up some pipe and put my stock tips back on and installed them for a $100

I just keep getting confused because everyone says something else.

Some just say to cut the muffler, others say to muffler+resonator+tips, and then some say cat this, and then header that.

I'm trying to break down the lingo.

You have an automatic so the resonator is way bigger and the h-pipe is inside it. And don't even think about headers now don't think u wanna get into that.

I saw a muffler delete on a camaro which was on a used car lot. The pipes they used to replace the mufflers had rusted ....it looked awful.

Dude....thank you. Like seriously. So many people use jargon (sometimes referring to it as the suitcase) that it's hard to really know.
