What's the use of "mid engining" a corvette?

If corvette owners wanted something mid engined, I guess they'd buy a mustang!

That doesn't make any sense. Can you elaborate?

the vette should have a v8, whether its front, rear, or mid-engined doesnt really matter to me. as long as its rwd, and still the beast it always has been, ill be happy.

I have no problem with the vette going mid-engine. I actually encourage it, but not to the point that I want the cost of the car to drastically raise.

Not sure how I feel about a turbo 6. I respect the ability of the turbo 6 to make amazing power no doubt, I love GNs and the 89 GTAs. I just think the Corvette is a v8 car. I would expect at most they offer the turbo 6 in some form of the c7 vette.

I'd rather see a 2.5L-3L turbo V8 that redlines at say 15,000rpm than drop down to 6 cyl., but...

The Indy Racing League is changing to turbo 4/6 cyl. motors (along with other series that run V8's) so this could line up well for Chevy - one block and common parts for many series - not to mention one screaming V6 in a Camaro or Vette. It wouldn't shock me if the NASCAR Nationwide series went to FI turbo V6's too.

Old news. It's been known that the next-gen Corvette has been going mid-engine since the 70's. I guess this is one of those automotive rumors that will never die.

Seriously, though, the C7 Vette is staying front engine, and it will almost certainly have the new DI V8 (as will the 6th gen Camaro). A no V-8 Corvette would be missing an important part of its DNA. Sure the power and torque would be there with turbos, but the sound and soul wouldn't. Ford tried no V8 with the Mustang once...and it only lasted a year.

The DCT transmission I can believe. If Ford and VW can have them in ~$20K cars, there's no reason a Corvette couldn't. DCTs are probably going to replace conventional automatics across the automotive spectrum over the next decade or so.

I'm a little curious about the source of this? Why would a Saab engineer be putting this out (particularly now that Saab is no longer a part of GM)?

It's all good. It was my best friend John. He's been looking for a RX-7 since we were in high school and he finally found one in great shape and for a great price. It is a 1993 and only had 27,600 original miles!

As much as I love my V8, I guess I can lose it if necessary. But only if they replace it with an afte-rburning jet engine!

im just gonna be pissed because people buy an 8 and blow it for power, if it already comes with turbs... idk i think they should stick to 8 cyl. but make them direct injection and smaller only if they have to...

I say just make the current V8's in our Camaros more powerful and more fuel efficient. Don't take away displacement for fuel efficiency. Us muscle car lovers didn't buy our cars to be fuel efficient so let us have our fun with V8's. I'm also sure that most of the V8 owners have a daily driver that is much more efficient and therefore the V8 is for the thrill!
