2017 Camaro 1LE Autocross Classification is out

I'm completely ripping this off of the SCCA forums but I'm sure some of us can use this info.

Here it is:

2017 V8 1LE to A Street

2017 SS V6 1LE to B Street

Link to PDF

Sounds about right for the V8. The V6 I thought might have gone to FS and might have a tough time with the AWD cars in BS.

Seems about right. Anything other than that was wishful thinking.

Who's to say we don't do both? I enjoy auto-x and track days.

I am a drag racer at heart (20 years experience and NHRA class champion five out of six seasons I entered at my track) who is looking to get into some other types of racing after I did a few autocross events with my other car. This is why I waited for an SS 1LE instead of getting a regular SS. For me autocross is a good, safer, cheaper start. As I get better I would like to hit bigger tracks for sure though...

Totally unsurprised about V8 1LE going to AS, I assumed that was where it was headed from pretty much day one. Sadly it will be going up against the C6 Z06 Autocross monster there. 2016 Nationals the highest placed non Z06 in AS I believe was an S2000 CR in 15th place. The GT350 that ran in AS was 20something. I would like to see a GM sponsored team or two run the 1LE in 2017 like they did with the regular SS at 2016 Nationals just to see what it can do at the National level.

Totally surprised about the V6 1LE in B-Street though. I thought for sure it would go to FS and shake things up a little bit there. Its still going to have a tough time against some really stiff competition in BS with the C5s and Miata's/S2000s.

Autocross is a really great way to dip your foot into the water of grassroots motorsports. (non Dragracing as you are already familiar with that) The community is fantastic, you will find friends you didn't even know you had, and everyone is very helpful. It is a LOT cheaper than track days, you can do an entire season of Autocross events for the price of a single track day, and you will have lots of opportunity to learn from other more experienced drivers with ride alongs and one on one instruction that is hard to put a price on. You can go an entire season or more on 1 set of tires and brakes in Street classes, and with cars like these where a full set of 200TW tires will run about $1400 that is an important consideration. Lots of the basics you learn from Autocross you can build on when you do decide to do track days as well, so even if track days is your ultimate goal, Autocross is a good inexpensive stepping stone towards that goal.

Yeah, I was thinking FS also. It would have been neat to see it against the SS non-1LE on a short Solo course.

Also suprised. They are getting a little wild with car classifications this year. I was thinking about doing the v6 1le this year in FS... didnt even consider it would be anywhere other than FS.
The Focus RS will shake up BS in '17. A couple of s2k/c5 gold jackets got taken down last fall, around the NorthEast, by an RS. I dont see anything besides a z28 or a 6th gen SS 1LE running faster than an RS or an s2k. Hopefully im wrong.

V8 in AS didn't surprise me. That's where the GT350 is. This car is faster in every measure than a 350.

The V6 in BS is surprising. I think they got a little screwed. I guess the SAB thought the 100lb weight savings between V8/V6 was worth 3 classes. 0_O

The C5Z and C6Z guys in my region are already talking smack about how the 1LE can't be competitive. It's going to be fun finding out.

Looking at those lists, clearly there is some payola going on. The V6 1LE is in the same class as the ATS-V? Wow. Cadillac flashed some cash I guess, along with BMW to get cars like the 1M Coupe in that same class.
