Most Drilled Holes For A License Plate Holder You Have Ever Seen!?

Hey guys, new to the forum, but been snooping around since I got my 2011 1lt about a month and a half ago. I have previously been on the cobalt and crossfire forum, but this is by far the best!

Anywho, went to remove the tacky front license plate holder because I have never run with a front plate in NJ, and I was shocked to see 8 holes in my bumper. I have seen many threads on here about removing the front plate and none showed this mess. (PICS BELOW)

For whatever reason the dealership decided to drill in a screw next to the 4 holes that the cover actually provided. Thus creating 4 more holes. There weren't even 8 screws in the bumper, just the 4 that the dealership did.

I specifically asked the dealer before I bought the car how was the holder fixed onto the bumper and he told me with 3m tape. Which I was happy to hear considering I read about drilling into the bumper to remove those push pins and so on.

Should I try to get the dealership to fix it for free? Personally I think its a travesty that they did this to the car, as I feel like every car is true art. I am the second owner. It is a CPO. Car only has 12,000 miles on it. I paid cash in full for the car, so I think they should help me out considering that

What do you guys think of all this? I cant plug 8 holes with push pins as I was going to do with the expected 4 holes I thought I would have.

(With license plate removed but cover still on)

(With cover off. Please excuse it being dirty. Washed it right after)

Wait. Do I actually see drywall screws holding that thing on?

I'm pissed off about this, and it's not even my car

Welcome and congrats. Sorry about the holes. Not sure if the dealer will do anything about that. You can try. What's the worst they can say. I'm from north jersey as well. Morris County here.

How can you be sure the dealer did that? That looks like maybe the first owner was too lazy or cheap to get the right clips to attach the holder to the bumper. Unless they've changed, they used to be held in with plastic clips that expanded when the screw was tightened in. That's a lazy hack job fix...
Good luck though

The dealer might have lost the correct attaching parts- they are not screws- and come in a small plastic bag. I can't remember what they are exactly look like.

I'm just as mad and sad inside. They aren't dry wall screws all though in the pic the holes on the fight do like it. They are standard 1 inch brown screws it seems.

Try to have them fix it, they ought to.

I'm just assuming the dealership did it. I believe most dealerships in NJ attach the bumper holder because front plates are a state law, even though you don't need them on your car to pass inspection. However, I will try to use the dealer saying it was attached by 3m as some leverage to get them to fix it for me.
