Well I have been reading post for a while until I finally decided to buy a Camaro a couple of months ago, but just haven't had the time to register.
But while driving today I noticed that the RPM's are lower than usual. (I'm no mechanic and have only basic understanding of how a car works.) I was driving in the freeway and I would press the gas peddle pretty far in and usually the car would accelerate but this time it didn't. I was going around 70 and the RPMs were at 2K and then when I excited the freeway while driving 40 mph it they stayed between 1K-1.5K. Is this normal because this is the first time it has happen since I always pay attention to how it feels. |

I am not real familar with auto, I would have instantly said you shifted too soon maybe riding in 6th when you should have been in 5th, I would definatly have it checked out with it being auto

Yeah I'm planning on taking it to the dealership, unless it wasn't a serious problem. Well I hope it isn't.

I am sure someone else, more familiar with cars/auto trans can help you a little more than I can. It does sound like we bought our cars about the same time- good luck hope its nothing serious

No I was just driving normally.
Well today I just found out that my brother had taken the keys and had driven it without permission. He admitted that he press the gas peddle while the car was park so of course it just stresses the engine. Would that probably be the cause of this? Because no matter how deep I press te gas peddle it doesn't want to go above 2k rpms. |

Camaro2LT/RS, I would bet he "tripped" something loke an over rev limit or something like that.....take it in and have the dealer check it out.....BUT what you need to do is just tell them what its doing. or not doing in your case, but don't tell them all the details of how your bro "MIGHT" have done.....once they plug in your car, they'll figure it out. depending on your dealers service manager, and if you tell him you "think" your car "might" have been over reved or something, IF they want to be "dicks" they could use that excuse to deny your warranty....or crap like that. SO, just take it in and tell them: "I don't know whats going on, it won't accelerate must past 2000 rpm" and let it go at that and see what they do.
OH ADN BTW.....CONGRATS on the ride and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to Camaro5. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, dad's, wive's, husband's, girlfriend's and boyfriend's here don't care....and take it easy. oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here. In the auto, 2000 rpms at 70 mph is not out of the norm. If the trans is not responding when you hit the throttle by downshifting properly you may have an issue so would not be a bad idea to take it to the dealer you bought it from and have it serviced just to make sure everything is alright.
You have a spendy warrantee, USE IT!!! Even if nothing is wrong at least you get piece of mind having it checked out.
