Did I overreact?
Hello guys,
I dropped my car off last wednesday at the dealership for an oil change (which I provided my own oil for) A loose 12 volt charger inside the armrest storage compartment and rear end noise. The dealer told me that for each thing wrong with my car it has to go to a specialist and they would have it 3 days. I sent an email today asking for an update as I was concerned based on the amount of time they have had my vehicle. I got a reply that it still has to go to a specialist to diagnose rear end noise. I replied to the service advisor to discountinue service on the vehicle other than the oil change and I will pick it up at lunch. When I last had this problem I dropped it off at another dealer and the problem was fixed in a matter of a few hours. That was 25,000 miles ago and the problem has since resurfaced. I should have taken back to the original dealer that fixed it the first time. I have been without my vehicle now for 7 days (which all consisted of some sort of terrible weather) But this weekend looks to be in the 70s and I want my baby back!!! Am I wrong for feeling this way? |

You're not wrong, but you have to let them fix whatever's wrong before you drive it around and potentially make things worse. Don't you get a loaner since they're going to keep your car? Ask whoever fixed it before (but did they really fix it if the problem reappeared?) to look at it again.

Yes they did give me a loaner car (2014 Chevy Silverado) Very nice truck. Smooth as all get out. I have to return the truck and get my car and take it to the original servicing dealer. These guys are 5 minutes from work and make it very easy for dropping off a vehicle on my lunch break, but I am not sure they have even looked at my car and I'd rather give the smaller (out of the way) dealer my business at this point. So I guess I will take it to them Saturday.

7 days and no new info from the dealer...definitely not overreacting. Hope you have better luck with the new dealer.

No, because the longer your car stays at the dealership, the more likely that little "oops" marks and missing item issues may occur. Its one thing if they are working or finishing the car, but if its still waiting to be looked at after a full week then you have the right to chane your mind and re-claim the car.

Not sure how true this is, but from my local GM service dept, is that certain techs are trained on high performance vehicles such as ours. Aka a master GM tech, and not all dealerships have a master tech to work on the ZL1. My ser. Mgr said they sometimes need to send their master tech out of town to work in other GM dealerships to work on specific vehicles. Again, not sure how true this is but might explain the long wait time?

Yeah, after a week I would be right with you on getting it back. Definitely too long to wait for some seemingly simple repairs.

Yes the shop foreman or chief mechanic usually is the one to work on Vettes and zl1's.
But they are also there 5 days a week. Just so happens my dealer's performance shop foreman is a great friend. So he is the only one I will let touch my car.

No way those repairs should take an entire week. If you like the dealership, meet with the service manager and see if he's as OCD as we are as ZL1 owners. I have the cell numbers of the service writer and service manager at the Chevrolet dealership that services my cars. They know how OCD I am, they respect me for it and I've always had great service. Good Luck!
