"Performance Shift Enabled"

A few days ago I was driving my V6 1LT to work in Auto/Sport and one of the highlights of my commute is the launch from the on-ramp onto a 70 MPH highway.

So from the ramp I merge into the fast lane doing 75. Nothing egregious but not exactly a "holding up traffic" speed either. A couple seconds later a 90s Toyota beater pulls up right on my bumper.

Aggravated, I decided to give this guy a facefull of exhaust and put some distance between us. As soon as I punched the gas a message came up on my HUD that said "Performance Shift Enabled".

I wouldn't think this would be a AFM indicator considering the speed and RPMs I was already at. Anybody know what it means?

You have the car in sport mode. When enabled this goes higher rpm per gear before shifting and stays in lower gear longer to give you more umph when you hit the pedal. If you go to tour mode it won't activate. It activates when the car thinks you are driving aggressively in sport mode. it messed with me the first time it happened to me, I thought the engine was f'in up or something.

It doesn't come up in the HUD, only in the DIC.

If you haven't discovered what performance shifting mode is while in Sport or Track your missing a lot of extra fun.

I have had mine as my DD for 9 months and haven't seen it.

I don't go to the track and don't street race but there isn't a day that goes by (as my wife would agree to, lol) that I am not driving at least harder than the average guy.

I know when getting on a freeway ramp that there have been several times where I am on it heavy to where I am at 70-80 MPH by the end of the entrance ramp and I always have it in Sport or Track, so what the heck do you have to do to trigger it?

It sounds like maybe getting aggressive on the entrance ramp isn't enough and you would have to maybe have a 2nd wave of aggression to trigger it?

Activates every time I floor it. Gradually getting on it is not going to trigger it from what I have seen.

I've floored it a total of 4 times since I've owned and never seen it. Is this for 8A only?

Why would it exist for manual? you control when you shift for a manual.

0-60 flooring it will cause perf shift to activate during the shift right after/as you hit 60. Definitely fun the first time this is triggered when checking your 0-60 times. Especially when you're needing to stop for an upcoming light.

Hence why I asked....

There has been talk in other threads about this versus what the owners manual states. but didn't specify for auto or manual. Original discussion was for the HUD however.

I dont think it's specified because it would make no sense on a manual. It's a feature that changes how the car shifts. That functionality doesn't exist on a manual by definition.

if you have the m6 and want "performance shift mode" you just change what rpm you feel like shifting at and when you downshift whenever you want.

Yup, performance shifter enabled is very cool. If you have not discovered it or read about your driving your Camaro very lame.

Next you will be asking about competitive mod and maybe even how to launching your car. Have you enabled your tiimer too? So you can track your 0 to 60 mph and 1/4 mile runs.

The car is so amazing, I have read a lot and discovered a lot. Probably more to learn.

First time this popped up my only thought was "#becauseracecar"

The car holds your rpms and shifts within 500 rpm of the amount of throttle your giving it. After a strong pull the car will wait and hold the rpms in a really nice power zone until you lax off and let it shift about 4 times back into economy mode.

We own race cars fellas... the flat bottom wheel is a dead give away on that one....
