Torn leather seat

I found a tear in my drivers side seat! I'm not sure when it happened though. It wasn't like that when I put it up for the winter.

Is there any way to fix this?

I was able to greatly improve a torn motorcycle seat years ago with on of the vinyl/leather repair kits years ago but it wasn't perfect. I've seen pro's using something similar on some of the car shows on TV.

About the only other option I could see would be to pull the cover and have the torn panel replaced.

I had a very similar tear in my passenger seat cushion cover when I bought my car. A local guy with mobile service repaired it to the point that I have to really look close to tell that anything ever happened. Don't know what he uses, but he's good. Of course, I'm in Virginia, but I would think that there would be someone in your area that performs the same type of service.

This can be repaired. I repaired a small triangular hole in a leather jacket using Loctite vinyl, fabric & plastic flexible adhesive.

Given the size of your tear, you will need a backing material to add strength, which will require pulling off the cover. A pro should be able to do this easily.

My 2014 seat ripped when under warranty in the same location; Chevrolet replaced the seat cover and did a perfect job. In my case I was using the seat heater and think the leather/backing overheated and lead to the split.
The leather is very thin, perforation breathing holes reduce the strength, and high heat may have been the final straw. The backing material on the leather I think provides most of the strength.

YES it can....actually you can replace the cover on the seat. I know, I had someone break into my car and in the process tore my leather seat....the repair shop went and bought a new cover (from GM) and replaced it. SO, it can be done.

If a replacement Hot Wheels cover is available that is probably the way to go.

I think the repair kits typically don't require removal.

It would be interesting see if that cover is still available from GM after 7 yeas.

Katzkin front and rear complete leather set is less than $700.00. If mine rip or wear out, Katzkin's are going in. Quality is night and day over the stock pleather.
