If you can get the SS to put the power down it's a drivers race. It's a lot easier to hook the Mustangs lighter weight and solid axle at the track. I could only muster a 1.9 60' with out breaking anything where as the bolt-on mustangs were pulling 1.6's with ease. I MPH'd higher but ran about 3/10 slower. It's all in the launch. Weight and IRS aren't a good combo for a low 60'.

Every forum seems to have a "fast-list" and most "hero-runs" are virtually identical between the two. The head-to-head comparisons were very similar although the MT run was the outlier. Road & Track got to 120mph a full second faster in the SS although the GT beat it by a tenth around Willow Springs. For a starting price around $31k these cars are remarkable.

Motor Trend: GT 12.7 sec @ 111.3 mph, SS 13.1 sec @ 110.8 mph
Car and Driver: GT 13.2 sec @ 109 mph, SS 13.0 sec @ 111 mph
Road & Track: GT 13.2 sec @ 109.3 mph, SS 13.0 sec @ 110.7 mph (0-120 mph: GT 16.4 sec, SS 15.4 sec), Willow Springs Lap: GT 1:37.6, SS 1:37.7)
Inside Line: GT 13.3 sec @ 107.3 mph, SS 13.1 sec @ 110.4 mph

I have not driven a manual 5.0 I did drive an ls3 camaro I didn't really notice anything wrong with the clutch/transmission, then again I don't have much to compare it to the only other standard vehicle I have driven that was close to the camaro from a performance standpoint was my bolt on/tuned cobalt SS turbo (260hp/300tq at the wheels)
But the general consensus among reviewers seems to be that the mustang clutch and transmission are way ahead of the Camaro.

You should head over to the mustang forums and read about all the transmission problems they have. Both cars have transmission problems and it's completely UNACCEPTABLE.

I have a 2012 SS and my wife has a 2011 5.0... when I'm in 3rd at the track, she is in 4th (3.73 gears), and she walks right by me.

Stock Power/Weight = Advantage 5.0

Yeah, but what happens when you put 3.73 gears in the Camaro?

It will make things closer but a 5.0 that weighs 3650 will still have an advantage over a camaro that weighs 3850 when they both make the same rwhp.

And the gearing in the MT for the mustang is crazy close. But the mustang with the 3.73 gears is actually slower in the 1/4 mile becuse you will have an extra shift into 5th around 1000ft.
The Camaro is extremely close with the 5.0, if the 5.0 gets a clean launch on the pathetic tires it will win. Thats the hardest part of launching my car. if i can get a 2.0 60ft then i run 12.70's to 12.80 all day. The stock 245/45/19 just cant get off the line great

Buddy your Camaro is really a little slower because you have bigger, heavier wheels, the GT doesn't. Simply changing your wheels to lighter rims and tires with more grip will change that. Them add 3.70 or 3.91 gears and wolla. GM give us a 6.2L for a reason, bigger displacement for more weight. I've driven 4 5.0s and have had it with trying to feel the stock power everyone talks about. Now that I can add lighter rear wheels to my car I may get an 18" setup that weighs much less.

you should hear my story about my '11 5.0 mustang... The trans is great while it works. But when it stops working, it's going to be hell to fix. The camaro however, can have its trans fixed in quite a few custom shops. The 6060 doesn't have the best gear ratios, but it is the superior trans.

I'll bet if you switch cars that she'll stomp your ass in your own car too. Sometimes it's the driver and not the car.
