Magnuson TVS 2650 Camaro - UPDATED with photos
Well it's been a while since this thing has been at the track, but the final remaining part has just arrived -
THE DRIVESHAFT! Car has undergone some serious changes and hoping to finally get back to the track for some shakedown passes on Friday. A quick photo tour of the changes are as follows So we've dropped the 8 speed auto in favor of an ATI TH400 with 4000 converter, tranbrake, and air-shifter. Swapped out the stock rear for a G-Force 9" with axles and a 3.55 gear Added an rear mounted intercooler ice tank and biger pump. I'm sure we have a long road of tuning in front of us, but looking forward to gettin back behind the wheel again. I'll keep you updated on the progress. |

Its gonna be a wicked ride, lets hope it will hook and you can actually put all the hp down to the track. The under hood is on the horizon and when it comes it will be worth the wait. Perfection takes time, I know its running late by some earlier predictions, but it will be awesome just like the big boy sticking out of the hood.

At that power level/torque you need to use 2nd gear to launch which causes its own issues. Also less gear changes the better.

Man I love this car. Good luck with the upgrades, looking forward to seeing some passes when she's buttoned up again.

It should go into the 8s with ease if Hubert can hook it. The car is actually heavier then stock with the full roll cage. Its been 9.14 at over 150 leaving in 2nd gear on the Power Tour but none of the tracks were prepped so it still spun the tires leaving in 2nd.

Looking good. Cant wait to see this beast run. This is gonna be a good winter for the 6th gen. But I do wonder why the turbo 400 over a 4l80? Track only usage? Do you have any other pumps in the intercooling system or just the EMP out back?

We hurt the stock torque converter lockup clutch from the second gear launches during Power Tour and not paying attention to the fact that it was set to lockup at 27mph. Had I noticed this in the cal and raised it it probably would have been fine, but since we had to pull the trans we decided to go with a more robust solution.
The A8 has a couple issues in a car at higher power levels; First it requires a significant amount of torque management during shifts to keep it alive, when you're making 5 shift changes during a pass with each shift change requiring ~0.25 sec of reduced power this becomes an impact to the performance of the vehicle. With torque management turned off the trans will be lucky to make 2-3 passes before failure. The TH400 will not require any power reduction during shifts. Also, first gear is too low at higher power levels, while this is the reason why A8 cars perform so well in a stock / slightly modified condition, it makes traction difficult with small tires with higher power. |
