Because the SS has a stanchion spoiler, and what's worse, a 3 stanchion one at that. You're going to inevitably end up with at least one extra hole in your decklid near the center. It may or may not be exposed, depending on what area of the decklid the dovetail spoiler covers, but there will be a risk of getting water in your trunk at very least. There's no factory spoiler delete option on the SS. If you're adamant about getting around this, expect to shell out some decent crash to either: A) Have the holes filed and painted. B) Have an LT decklid installed instead.

The 5th gen SS was faster around the track than 4th gen 1LEs, and GM somehow saw fit to introduce a 1LE package for the 5th gen. And I bet it was the same in the 4th vs 3rd gens too. Its not about absolute lap times, its about getting something that goes a bit further than normal.

I am sure the dealer will sell it to you, but will it cover the holes for the stock spoiler. Even it if covered them, is it water tight?

Can anyone explain to me why a 3 pillar stanchion makes it any less possible to mount a dovetail? just means that rather than this (top-down look):

--------______ ______--------
--------------------------------
you get this:

Nobody's seen the 6th gen dovetail and SS spoiler side by side, right, so... not entirely sure where you're trying to go with this, tbh.

I can tell you from experience as somebody who had their stock SS spoiler replaced with a dovetail on a 5th gen: The surface area both spoilers covered was totally different. Removing my stock spoiler exposed paint chips that weren't previously visible, so I had to get the decklid repainted. The dovetail typically covers less of the decklid's top because rather than sitting directly ontop and flush with it, it goes back a bit further and hugs the back of the trunk too.

  • Front grill (LT normally has lots of chrome in front, but this package blacks it out.)
  • Chevy bowtie emblems
  • Sideview mirrors
  • Spoiler
  • Ground effects kit (likely included)
  • Rims
  • Rim center caps
The black package is on the front cover of the accessories guide. Unfortunately, it looks like there are no blacked out tail lights. No idea if this will be available on the SS -- it would suck if not, because it would just add fodder to those who say the LT kills the SS in terms of looks. The dovetail is unfortunately not going to be available on the SS either in all likelihood -- GM is being kind of strict about anything that can affect its bottom-line performance.
That reminds of 2010 all over again. had to wait a year to get the dovetail I ordered when I bought my car.

You can mount the dove tail, but your stanchion mounting holes will most likely still be showing based on he design we have seen. Holes showing in your decklid looks terrible and will most likely cost more to fill in over just ordering a fresh LT decklid.

+1. I've been saying this all along. People will be buying decklids from the LT to start off with a clean slate. There is no clean way to do a spoiler delete on the SS. Chevy even said this directly — there will be no option to delete for the MY2016 SS.

Besides paying MSRP (or more ), these are all reasons to wait this out. By next summer they will figure out what we want (see: opportunities to maximize revenue) and make them available.

They won't react until they actually see the behavior and confirm money is being left on the table.
