Auto Downshift when putting into Manual Mode?

I have driven my moms Infiniti Q60 Red and when switching the shifter from D into Manual Mode, the car automatically downshifts 2 gears which is really helpful especially on the highway.

I was wondering if there was some way something similar to that could be programmed in our 6th Gens... Sometimes I put it in manual to downshift to accelerate hard without nailing the throttle but its cumbersom to have to shift back 3 - 4 times when in 8th gear to get to the sweet spot.

The closest I can think of is pressing the downshift paddle once and then holding it to put the car in the lowest possible gear. Or in Sport mode, you blip the throttle and let Performance Shift have its fun

pull the paddle once and let go to put it into manual mode and then pull and hold the left paddle and the transmission will automatically shift to the proper gear for full throttle operation.

^^^ yup, these two methods are the way on the Camaro.

I prefer the throttle blip to the floor that engages performance shift mode, because then it'll also keep you in the powerband until you start driving like a grandma again for 10-15 seconds (don't remember how long exactly), then it disengages automatically.

The downshift paddle "click-long click" sequence isn't bad either, though.

Sweet. I can't wait to try it out the next time Carmen leaves the garage.

Going into Track will cause a downshift as well.

Each mode has different shift points for the auto’s, Performance Shift Mode and the method of pressing once then holding the downshift paddle can be done in either Sport or Track mode as a separate function. Doing either and driving normally after will return the shift points back to whatever mode the car is in

I've had a couple of instances where I've put the car in Snow/Ice mode due to some "greasy" pavement (salt brine & rain), had to drive the Camaro because my wife has needed the other car for radiation appointments. Anyway, I accidentally pushed the mode button down twice, from Sport mode, which of course goes through Track mode. Even quickly going through Track mode to Snow/Ice, the car downshifts as you go through Track mode. Not exactly what you want when the road might be a little slick, lol.

Easiest way to circumvent that is to change modes the other way. Instead of going down twice from Tour, go up once while in Tour and you’ll be in Snow/Ice

Hmm, this must be some new feature. I have to give the car some extra throttle to make it downshift after switching to Track mode... which is what I would expect and prefer, I don't think simply switching to another mode should cause an immediate downshift.

(Now, in a perfect world, we would have advanced settings and be able to change all this behavior as we see fit.)

My 2016 didn’t have Track mode and I never did find that crazy of a difference between Tour and Sport on the stock tune but here’s my 2022 downshifting from 10th to 6th for Sport and 4th for Track at ~43mph. Just enough pedal input to stay in the 43mph zone otherwise the cars doing it all with me slapping the shifter to identify what gear it’s in and back

Very interesting, thank you for the video I've learned something new today, too.

Oh yes that's true. But I've been so used to changing down, from Tour to Sport, that it was just habit, lol. Having to adjust my habits.
