Should I avoid buying a used 2010

With the 2016 coming out and used prices already getting reasonable, in my area I'll be seeing 5th Gen ss's for under 20k. I am already seeing 2010 ss's approaching 20k, but I was worried about buying a first model year car, should I avoid a used 2010 ss and just shop for 2011+?

Just for an idea I'm looking to spend 20k for a used ss 6 speed, leather seats , rs and tech packages are not important to me (a reason I'm not gonna buy a new 2016, all of the standard techy stuff Jacks up the price)

Meh, depends on what you're looking for. FE4 suspension was a nice change along with the HUD and the MyLink on the 12 or 13 models. The 10's don't have any issues at all to speak of. Oil leak at the back of the block due to porosity or rear main seal on a few (very few). Mine's been rock solid as have the majority of 2010's I've heard about.

Price wise, 20k seems about in line depending on the miles. There's no telling what prices will do. Some worry they're gonna bottom out; others think they'll stay pretty much in line. I'm with the latter camp. As long as there's a demand the prices will stay fine.

OK thanks, I read about the oil leaks and am glad to hear it was a rare issue. This time last year I was looking for a used ss, decided to wait, bought the wife a car instead. Prices dropped a little in my area, so if the slope continues I'll be cruising around in a used ss next summer, if the prices flat line where they are now I'm not sure what I'll do

Take a look at the 2013's they have all the goodies with the original 5th gen styling. That is the best model year IMO. No shame in getting a 2010 though, they have been solid cars.

Yea, all the "the goodies" are a nice touch but I just don't need them, I've been driving base model cars since I got my license. As far as a camaro all I need is 8 cylinders, 6 gears and 4 tires

I bought my 2010 used from Becky at Rodgers, I also bought a new 2011 from her. My 2010 started slightly leaking oil but it was covered under the warranty. No questions asked. Some cover was leaking, I can't remember the name. Oh, maybe timing chain cover?
Anyhow, you could probably find a 2010 2Lt Rs for under $20,000 now. I got mine right at that with 33,000 miles on it.

Soooo if you don't want the leather and rs, I'm sure this is doable. I might even go for a 2011 for $20,000. But I was impatient. Oh and a manual too.

Only issue I had was the oil cooler coolant leak....and that was a simple fix under a TSB. Other than that, rock solid.

I bought 2010 2 years ago and leaks in the rear main seal and the oil cooler, both covered under warranty as it only had 14,000 miles, car is rock solid since then. I would go with a 2013 as it may have the HUD and a few other option I wish we could have on the 2010

Bought ours last Sept. with 88K highway miles for CHEAP (because of the miles). Has 112 on the clock currently and is a daily driver. No squeaks, slips, rattles or oil usage.

I wouldn't let miles scare me, IF the car has been maintained. I had all the paperwork, where the car was serviced from day one, at the dealer.

Last car ('05 Magnum R/T) had 207K on it, and still ran great. Our trade cycle on cars is typically 10 years/200K.

A great price price on a nice used 2010 SS combine for a great deal... and you won't regret it. Never had engine issues or any other real costly issues myself. The suspension upgrades that can be made can have you running with vette's for nominal costs if you want to, and the looks and exterior/interior body upgrades are outstanding.

I say if its not too run down, got decent mileage - get it! Nothing like one of these bad boys... 75K miles and running strong and better than when I got it.

Thinking about doing something like this myself. 2010s should be anywhere from 15K-20K this time next year. Sometimes I think about waiting a couple more years and picking up a 13-15 1LE for 20-25K?

My 2010 has been rock solid. If you want better suspension, sways and lowering springs are easy and relatively cheap. IMHO, anything prior to the 2014s looks way better.
