For turning active Rev match on and off. And saving money on the wheel probably too.

For rev match shifting.

The steering wheel is the same whether car is auto or manual. To fill the spots where the auto shift paddles go, GM made them the rev match on/off paddles.

No, the holes are blocked off on those models. The paddles were just convenient for the manual SS instead of having to integrate some other switch or button on the steering wheel.

Car and Driver Dec. Issue

not sure if anyone has seen it yet, but the Dec. issue of Car & Driver is out with the cover story comparing a '16 Maro 2SS auto vs a '16 Stang GT man PP. i'm waiting to see Ford's response as well as the 50th Anniv. Camaro. even then, i'll probably hold on to my '15 WRX, it's a blast driving and i won't have to reinvest in a set of winter tires/wheels. but yeah, i'm gonna be drooling for that V8 muscle car again, at some point. p.s. this issue also has a good winter tire test for those still trying to figure out what to get for their 6th Gen's.
