Turning LS3 into 427ci
Hi Gents,
Hopefully this is the right section. I have started doing research and searching forums. From what I have found so far reaching is the following. The LS3 376cui with a 4 inch crank shaft will become 417cui. Now what are my options to hit that 427 cui mark? Just a set of oversized heads? I have a mild/semi aggressive cam, headers, cai right now and really like staying NA with a 100 shot or so. |

The 427 LS3 has a 4.1" or 4.125" crank. You get to 427 the same way you get to 416.

There's a reason most people stop at 416. The stroke required for 427 is a little much for the stock LS3 block. It can and has been done but the 416 is much safer and easier on the engine.

Stick with the 417, in case you want to go bigger with the nitrous or move to a blower. If you plan on a 100shot and are not going bigger you could get away with the 427.

"Just a set of oversized heads?"
Huh? Heads do not change the displacement. Just a FYI . |

Seriously.
The 6 bolt heads use more head bolts, and have better clamping force as a result. Engine displacement (size) is a formula. Bore X stroke.

Seriously. Cubic inches is based on bore, stroke, and how many cylinders. NOT anything to do with heads, or pistons.
COMPRESSION is based on heads and pistons.... If that's what you may have been thinking?...

So surfacing the heads doesn't change the displacement?

Heads have nothing to do with engine displacement. Maybe you are thinking of compression ratios.
