Well it's the law in Texas too, but neither of my vehicles have one in front. Ok, the truck does, but it's a skull and crossbones plate that's been on there since 2003. I've never been asked or hassled about it either.

Could be the big Marine Corps stickers on the back of my vehicles though.

My god those plugs look cheap and tacky.......

If you are going to take it off, then do it right by having the holes filled and smoothed and then painted over.

Or just leave it on there, it is just a license plate....

I have the front plate on my Camaro and while I agree it doesn't add to the look, I don't think it takes away from it either. I wouldn't spend the $400 to have it fixed, I'd just roll with it.

Maybe spend the $400 on Clear Bra to protect the paint on the front of your car or the gill's area. The money I spent on the Clear Bra was worth every penny.

In Ohio we have legislation in progress, Ohio State HB192, to remove the front plate requirement. It has been in the active files for a couple years, and isn't dead yet, but we're trying to get rid of our front plates here.

Right now 20 states do not require front plates: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia and the territories Guam and Puerto Rico.

We're trying to be the 21st!

I have been in contact with my state rep, I refuse to let this legislation die.

Here in CA, front plates are required. Mostly for the red light cameras and speed cameras. I told my dealer not to put the plates on and ended up with a bracket like this:
. That way, I can put the plate up when driving and retract when parked.

plugs from pep boys

i removed the rivets, but i did it when i remove the facia, when i tried to drill them they would spin, once i had the facia off, i just twisted them off. i used my red touch up paint, put it in a spray gun and bamm, its a much cleaner look. it looks better than the plate frame and it cost me $3.00. now i know it would look better if i spent $400.00 but it still looks better than a plate IMO.

After also owning Corvettes, I decided it is not worth having to worry everytime you pass a policecar if you are going to get stopped.
If you are in a state that requires the front plate, just put it on and forget about it.
At least my C5Z06 has a place in the bumper designed for the plate, but I did not hesitate to install the front plate on my 2011 Camaro.
Also, mounting the plate low and off to the side just attacts more attention to it than if you had just used the factory bracket.

No Front Plate

This issue will cost my wife $142.00.
I didn't put the plate on, told the dealer not to install it. After a year of driving around like this, My wife was on her way to pick me up at the airport. She's "coasting" down a hill, doing 72 mph, and there is no insurance card in the car because of the rearender from 3 weeks before. The trooper didn't give her a ticket for the coasting, or the speeding, or for not having proof of insurance. Nailed her for no front plate. I spent $152 for the remote plate so it could be retracted. Didn't like how the end of the mechanism stuck out from under the car. So I took that off.
I simply zip-tied the OEM front bracket as low on the lower grill as possible and just tight enough to keep it from moving around. Looks ok, and I can take it off when I want no front plate w/o any holes.

The dealer did not install the bracket on my Camaro on date I bought it because I thought I would try to get by with out front plate. After thinking on it for a day I returned to dealer and had bracket installed. The police cant stop you without a reason, so missing plate gives them the right to stop you whenever. I dont intend to have contriband etc, but I dont want to give them cause to inconvience me either. Now I am more concerned about getting chips on the front end.

I told my dealer that if he put holes in my bumper, I would not take the car. The salesperson took the bracket out of the trunk as my car came off the trunk to make sure it did not get put on my car.

I also live in a front plate state. But I simply told the dealer that I have my own "no drill" bracket that I'd put on the car. Which is exactly what I did. I think a front plate is stupid, but it is the law. I have no holes in my bumper this way though.
