Not sure, i'm certain someone will chime in but they made almost 300k 1979 Camaros alone with probably a third of those being Z28's.

For comparison, Ford has produced 9,787,161 Mustangs through 2020, and another 96,746 total 2021/22.
https://www.cjponyparts.com/resource...roughout-years In some years, Chevy did outsell Ford, but with 1.3 million out the door before the 1st Camaro was sold, it was mathematically impossible for Chevy to catch up. Ironic considering GM essentially created the muscle car segment with the GTO. |

pony cars and muscle cars aren't exactly the same though. The 64 GTO was 2 Feet longer than a Mustang.
