did you not look over all your paperwork, before signing? you know, that long yellow piece of paper that breaks everything down. look at that.

Brand new 2ss, auto trans, 38k is very average-good deal on the car itself.

Now, if you are asking where the 5k went, it could have gone to taxes/licenses, possibly other dealer installed accessories, and that tax rate depends on your state.

Did the $38k include your 8% sales tax, registration fee, loan origination fee, etc?

Sounds like your "out the door" bottom line price was $43,000. Should be right there in your paperwork.

You sure that wasn't total loan, including interest?

That 38k number surely does not include tax, title & reg fees and loan interest.. Your paperwork will show total purchase price. Down payment and amount financed.

Is this a thread for real? Let me see if I understand.

You negotiated a deal for 38K out the door (meaning everything)
You the put down 5K cash which should have meant a total finance of 33K
Yet you walked out the door paying 5K and with total financed of 38K

The amount financed refers to the total amount you will pay. So if your loan was $33,000 and over the life of the loan there is $5,000 in interest the amount financed is $38,000.

The amount financed is required to be disclosed pursuant to federal law to make things "easier to understand." It's part of the truth in lending law which I refer to as the "confusion in lending law" because the disclosures are more difficult to figure out than the actual loan terms.

38k out the door doesnt seem too bad. You might have been able to squeeze a few thousand more if you haggled more. I got my 2010 2SS/RS with 24K miles for 34K out the door.

Since I round my car payments up to the nearest hundred, that 34K should turn into 33K in a few years.
