Question to 5th Gen owners who were around in 1970...
There's been tons of conversation about the 5th Gen becoming a 6th Gen Euro sports car.
It's an arcane fact that the 2nd Gen was inspired by the 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso. So I'm wondering if the same conversation existed 46 years ago, about the 1st Gen becoming a 2nd Gen Euro sports car?

Funny thing is the Camaro actually looks way better than the Ferrari.

I don't recall any such comparisons. Ferrari's were then, and still are now, out of my reach. I was more concerned with being cool in my 72 SS 350 and my 78 Z28...see for yourself:

Well, the world was a lot smaller before Google, so it's really hard to say. Many Camaro enthusiasts had more than likely never seen nor heard of this particular Ferrari, heck, until just now neither have I. lol

When I was a junior in high school in 69 my dad made the mistake of buying a repo 67 Camaro 4 spd. It was a 210 hp 327 but still fun to slam the gears. A friend on mine and I went to the junk yard a got a 4 barrel manifold and Rochester off something and put it on the car, thought we were racers. Anyway, fast forward to about 1995 and I built a 68, 383 lumpy motor, Richmond 5 spd car. Very....visceral, is that the word? The heater, defroster, vents ended up being eliminated. Very impractical, but full of cool noises and violent when the peddle was applied. What a hoot.
Lost track of the moral but I'm with MrChrisL. I know what a Ferrari is but don't really keep up with them and but never made any kind of connection, just liked the Camaros. GM on the other hand no doubt had a plan. Now? 2013 Hot Wheels 2LT convertible, 6 spd. I love it. I've gotten to appreciate going around corners more than straight line speed. |

As a teen in the '70s, although I knew what Ferraris were (a few of our neighbors owned them), I don't recall any such conversations.

Ferraris were a rare site in my area. Mercedes were even a rare site. Topic never came up about the comparison. Only really happened when that Web net thingy came about.

I felt compelled to bring out the Pewter Silver of your car.

I loved that color. Even though I had several silver cars (Corvette, RX-7, 911S) after that, those car's silver wasn't the same. They were just "plain" silver. That Pewter Silver was unique. Those wheels and tires were take-offs from my '68 Camaro which I traded in on that '72. Had to raise the height to get them to clear the fenders, but that's what us dumb-asses did on those days.

Related question for you that can recall...
What was the general reaction to the styling changes that the 1970 1/2 Camaro brought?
